POTD: Heckler & Koch MP7

    Heckler & Koch MP7

The Heckler & Koch MP7. The gun that everyone wants (until it’s time to pay for ammo), but no one can get. As one of the comments read: “You have a better chance of running over Bigfoot on a unicorn than bringing that home.” In today’s Photo Of The Day, we have a Bundeswehr soldier holding a Heckler & Koch MP7. The image above is from a joint exercise and demonstration with Dutch forces.

Here’s how Heckler & Koch describes their MP7 models (Source):
The MP7 represents a generation of performance-enhanced, compact gas-operated submachine guns in calibre 4.6 mm x 30 NATO. As a fully automatic handgun for both single fire and sustained fire, it closes the gap between the classic assault rifle and the conventional submachine gun. Designed as a close-combat weapon for personal self-defence, the MP7 is extremely powerful at short and medium ranges up to 150 metres. At short range, the MP7 can be used on the move with the buttstock retracted or one-handed like a pistol. The MP7 can be carried permanently on the person as a primary or backup weapon, e.g. by vehicle crews, snipers, machine gunners or pilots. It is light in weight, practically recoil-free, extremely compact in design and can therefore be used in very confined spaces. The MP7 submachine gun is the ideal companion for reacting quickly and efficiently in dangerous situations with high rate of fire and great effectiveness.
