Welcome everyone to the 211th Edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the FN FNAR was a hot gat.

HGFC – Classic FNAR or A Fudd Too Far? — Poll Results

At this time the original auction is still up with the FN FNAR still up for grabs. We can only hope this classic FN will find its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Springfield Saint Edge chambered in .223 Wylde. As is tradition, this power tool-themed gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,500 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

Let your friends tell you that you ruined a perfectly good gun as you cry on the drive home from the range listening to Alanis Morissette.” – Adam S.

“Balance, to better appreciate the good you have to have the bad.” – Nick C.

Selling this Milwaukee-themed gat is GunBroker seller browninggunman, located in Woodsfield OH.  Let’s see what they had to say about this Milwaukee Fuel-themed Springfield.

This is truly a one-of-a-kind rifle. It is a Springfield Saint Edge, chambered in .223 Wylde. Plus, it has a complete custom cerakote finish with Milwaukee tools featured along with a very nice, battle-worn red finish.

The rifle is already set up and ready to go as well with a Vortex Diamondback Tactical scope at 1-12×40. The scope is mounted on Leupold AR cantilevered mounts. Also already mounted is a Vanguard Equalizer bipod. This is in addition to the already factory-upgraded Edge package from Springfield Armory, which features a Bravo Mod 2 pistol grip; a Bravo Mod 0 SopMod butt stock; and a modular, match-grade, short-reset, and Melonite® treated single-stage trigger. This is a used but unfired gun. WE DO NOT CHARGE CREDIT CARD FEES.

The first mention of the Springfield Edge ATC here on TFB was on December 11, 2021. The following May TFBtv host Hop posted a video on the Edge ATC titled “Is The Springfield Saint Edge Worth the Money?”.  Now in 2023 while doing some digging on this rifle, I found it on the discontinued page of Springfield’s website. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that it was not in fact worth the money.

The Accurized Tactical Chassis (ATC) was honestly a solution that no one asked for. In situations like these, you’re forced to wonder how the idea made it this far. For years now there have been plenty of varmint rifles, hunting rifles, and even military application-specific AR-15s that have been built for this task. It’s not like the MK12 series of rifles was a secret or something you couldn’t buy.  So I never understood this desire to re-invent the wheel when there were plenty of other options in this space.  Regardless, the hype lasted about the same length as the production time, and to this day I’ve actually never seen one of these rifles for sale online or in a gun store. Between that and the off-the-wall paint job, I knew this was something that needed to be featured in this series for a couple reasons.  One, it’s weird, and two, there are probably quite a few commentators who own one that’ll share their experience with this rifle in the comments section.  Either way, I’m certainly not in the market for one. Even though I do, in fact, enjoy a Milwaukee tool, this, on the other hand, I have no use for.

What do you think? Is this Springfield Saint ATC remotely worth it with a wishful price tag of $2.5k? Or are you better off just getting a longer barrel already accurate AR-15 from any other well-known manufacturer? As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
