HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Roman Inspiration or Societal Degradation?

Welcome everyone to the 209th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the custom Mossberg 500 was outrageous fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up with the brass knuckle-clad gat remaining still up for grabs.  We can only hope this modified shotgun will find its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Roman-themed Glock 48 MOS chambered in 9mm. As is tradition, this white and gold gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $3,600 Buy It Now.

    Description (from Glock website)

Chambered in 9×19 the G48 MOS features slide cuts designed for specific micro-optics and the GLOCK Slim Mounting Rail for mounting accessories. The perfect tactical partner with increased concealability.

The G48 MOS is of similar length and height as the compact size G19 but has the well-known GLOCK Slimline design with the reduced width of the pistol for perfect carrying comfort.

The frame features the GLOCK Slim Mounting Rail for mounting tactical accessories and incorporates elements of the Slimline series such the short trigger distance, a frame with a built-in beavertail, a reversible magazine catch and the incredibly accurate, match-grade GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB) of the Gen5 series. The G48 Rail also features precision-milled front serrations.

The slim magazine is built in reliable GLOCK style, it has an orange magazine follower for higher visibility and is specifically developed to ensure the 10rds magazine capacity.

Note: The G48 with the Modular Optic System (MOS) does not come with adapter plates

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Roman Inspiration or Societal Degradation?

This series has seen plenty of custom Glocks. While the themes have had little to no consistency, the formula remains the same. Take a basic idea, turn it into an obsession, and produce something heavily modified and grossly overpriced. Now that’s not to say that the engraving job on this gun isn’t incredibly well done, but to me, it looks like the gun version of a McMansion.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Roman Inspiration or Societal Degradation?

When the price of a pistol exceeds $3k, I’d expect to be looking at a custom 1911, 2011, or some flavor completion handgun. Not in a million years would I expect to be looking at a Glock 48 MOS. That’s not to say it’s a bad firearm. Quite the opposite actually. So I guess this was built for someone who frequently finds themselves flying private or spending time at the yacht club. I guess we’ll see if anyone from that elite community needs a new CCW piece, but I seriously doubt it.

What do you think? Is there any way a custom job like this could be worth just under $4k? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
