TFB Review: Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

TFB Review: Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

Blue Alpha Gear is a small American business located in Atlanta, GA. They specialize in crafting high-quality products tailored to the needs of the outdoor and shooting community. Their offerings primarily consist of belts and belt accessories at this time. They pride themselves on delivering exceptional value through their offerings but also in providing top-notch customer service. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the guys from the Blue Alpha team this past January at the SHOT Show. If you were lucky enough to see our bathroom preview video of their new battle belts then you know these guys have a good sense of humor. Nonetheless, they ended up sending me a few of their belts at a discounted price. I have had the Low Profile EDC belt along with another belt of theirs for around seven months and have been testing it as my primary everyday carry belt with my Glock 43X up to the time of this review.

Fit and Comfort  –  Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

For the longest time, the idea of concealed carrying a pistol was something that I was interested in doing. One of the things that always made me hesitant about starting was wondering just how comfortable it would be to walk around with a pistol around my waist all day. From my time in the Army as a Military Police Officer, I knew just how annoying it can be to have a pistol on your waist all day.

Personally, I like to wear athletic-style clothing that fits more snuggly than other clothes, and the idea of printing with a handgun became very concerning to me. This past January, I picked up my first EDC-style pistol, a Glock, 43X to be exact. I was amazed at how slim and small this handgun was and thought that concealing it would be a breeze. Once I hooked it up to a holster and a fat leather gun belt, I soon realized how bulky the package still was when I was just wearing a traditional T-shirt.

Enter the Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC belt. While not as robust as many other gun belts on the market, this one is incredibly slim in comparison to Blue Alpha’s other offerings. It’s also incredibly light weighing in at just under 5 ounces. When I first put the belt on, it felt much more comfortable to me just because of how slim it is. I found this belt to be so comfortable that even when I was not carrying a gun, I would still opt to wear it over the other ones in my closet.

The Low Profile EDC is a velcro-style belt that is adjustable and comes in different sizes. I have been using the 32-inch sized belt because that’s what fits me best but they make sizes from 28 all the way to 48 inches. If those sizes still don’t work for you, you can call and get custom sizes made which I think is a really nice touch from a manufacturer like this.

So the belt fits great as long as you get the correct size for your body and it’s also very comfortable and has a lot of adjustment built into it. Speaking of adjustment, there are about 14 inches of adjustment on this belt. So even if you do order one that’s not your traditional pant size it’s probably still going to fit you fine.

Usability – Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

As mentioned before, if I’m going to carry a handgun discreetly, I want it to be exactly that, discreet. Given the low profile nature of this belt, I found it much easier to concealed carry, even when wearing slimmer or athletic clothes. For that reason alone, this became my go-to EDC belt, especially during the warmer months when I prefer to wear cooler clothing.

I like that Blue Alpha opted to go with a simple loop-through plastic buckle for this belt. I think this is a good idea for a few reasons. Number one, the plastic is much lighter than a metal buckle. While an aluminum buckle would not really weigh that much more, it would definitely cost more than a plastic buckle which leads me to the second reason – the plastic buckle helps keep the price down on this belt. I really appreciate this because it seems like everyday tactical gear and belts especially are getting more and more expensive, so it’s nice to see a company trying to put out a more budget-minded option. That is still of good quality. Finally, the loop-through style buckle also keeps this belt a little bit slimmer than if they were to use a plastic or metal cobra buckle.

Competitive Options – Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

    Mike’s LLOD Belt

While I can’t prove any of this without getting my hands on other EDC gun belts, it does seem that many other companies make nearly identical belts to the ones from Blue Alpha. To the point where even the promotional images on the websites are the same for the most part. Im not sure if Blue Alpha is making these belts for other companies but it certainly seems that way. I know Blue Alpha does a lot of collaboration with others like Mike from “Last Line of Defence” so I think this may be a plausible theory.

With that being said, here are a few competitive options that are slightly different.

Wrap Up –  Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC Belt

Overall, I think the Blue Alpha Gear Low Profile EDC belt is a great option for beginners and long-term carry enthusiasts. It’s an excellent and well-designed belt that has everything you need and nothing you don’t. This design philosophy helps keep the price down and makes it a great beginner option for people who have just purchased their first concealed-carry handgun and want to test the waters on carrying it. Coming in at under $50, I think this bill is kind of a no-brainer. With that being said, the EDC belt market is very saturated, and you can find pretty much the exact same belts from other manufacturers for nearly the same price, but you may not be going to be getting the great customer service and made-in-America guarantee from those other companies.
