Really Right Stuff SOAR PT-Scout Pan-Tilt Head

Really Right Stuff SOAR division quietly came out with their PT-Scout Pan-Tilt head for use with your spotting setups and tripod. It is a budget-friendly option to have more precise control and adjustment of your observational equipment.

When using spotting scopes and other observational devices to look at a target far away, making minute adjustments can be challenging. Sure, ball heads make adjusting a spotting scope or binoculars somewhat fast, but it is not easy to make a small change quickly.

My friends and I noticed this especially when we attempted to shoot a soda can 700 yards away. You can see our spotting setups above. Mine is on the far left. We each have ball heads for our tripods but when you add all the doo-dads and accoutrement it becomes very difficult to make small adjustments.

Really Right Stuff has a cinema fluid head that is great for making movies and it costs a staggering $5,800. Enter the RRS SOAR PT-Scout Pan-Tilt Head.

The PT-Scout has an ARCA-style base so it is easy to attach to your tripod. At the top, it is machined for RRS or ARMS 17 compatible clamps.

    • Fine Adjustable Tilt Pre-Tension: Allows users to adjust the tension to accommodate different optics sizes, ensuring smooth tracking and precise control.
    • ARMS-17s MountingSolution: Wether you own an exisiting RRS clamp, or another, the PT-Scout features an ARMS-17s mounting solution to increase fucntionality and compatiblity.
    • SC-ARC and BTC-PRO Clamp Compatibility: This compatibility enables the PT-Scout to function with our most popular clamp options.
    • Tilt Head Notch: Tilt the head 90° into the base’s notch for extra torque on a 3/8”-16 stud, offering additional stability when needed.
    • Swappable Pan Brake/Drag Knob: Pan control knob can be moved to the either side based on user preference, enhancing usability and customization.
    • Dual 1.5″ RRS Dovetail Base: Includes RRS-Lock for secure and robust mounting of equipment.

The PT-Scout comes in three variants. Just the PT-Scout without a clamp is $205. With BTC-PRO clamp it is $285. The SC-ARC bundled version is the most at $365.

For more information go to the RRS SOAR website. I purchased one of the BTC-PRO PT-Scout and plan to do a review of it in the future.
