SILENCER SATURDAY #285: Suppressors Ripped from the Headlines

SILENCER SATURDAY #285: Suppressors Ripped from the Headlines

SILENCER SATURDAY #285: Suppressors Ripped from the Headlines

Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday brought to you by Yankee Hill Machine, manufacturers of the new YHM Turbo T3 5.56 rifle suppressor. Last week we discussed cleaning the YHM Phoenix rimfire suppressor. Since it is a holiday weekend, we are bringing you another edition of Suppressors Ripped from the Headlines. What’s been happening in our niche world of silencers, inside the niche world of the NFA, inside the niche world of gun ownership? Let’s take a look.

    More @ TFB:

SILENCER SATURDAY #285: Suppressors Ripped from the Headlines

First up we have our own James Reeves, TFBTV Executive Producer, on location at Brownells’ GunCon.

New 3D Printed Titanium Suppressor: The HUXWRX Flow762 [GunCon 2023]

Very nice, James, but I hit the HuxWrx Flow762 a month ago. Slacker.

LMT is Making Suppressors Now?! [GunCon 2023]

I do really like the LMT AT ION suppressors. Slightly heavy but they do perform.

    AAC’s $450 Lightweight 5.7mm Suppressor: The Element 3 [GunCon 2023]

AAC is stepping back into the game. Although I would not have guessed a 5.7 release. Interesting.

Creative Arms .300 BLK “ISR” (Integrally Suppressed Rifle) [GunCon 2023]

Suppressed 300BLK is never a bad thing. Ever.

    From Twitter:

New South Wales, Australia is apparently making legal headway in the ownership of suppressors by regular citizens. A bit of refreshing gun news from the southern hemisphere for once.

    A news excerpt from SportingShooter.com:

NSW Nationals vote to approve suppressors, drop appearance laws

    Link: https://sportingshooter.com.au/news/nsw-nationals-vote-to-approve-suppressors-drop-appearance-laws/

The NSW branch of the National Party has voted unanimously to adopt the removal of appearance laws and bans on suppressors as a party platform at its recent state conference in Tamworth.

The Nationals did not respond to a request from Sporting Shooter for additional comment or information by time of publishing, meaning there is little information on what the new stance might mean for shooters or how the Nationals plan to implement it.

Next up is a semi-editorial piece from the Shelbyville Times-Gazette in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Bo Gill decided to have a conversation about the NFA and how the $200 transfer or making tax could be adjusted for inflation to deter ownership of NFA items. Thanks Bo, but why don’t you leave these conversations to people who actually know what they are talking about.

In all fairness to Bo, he may be a victim of mainstream media tactics, but since he is quoted as being against the civilian ownership of machine guns, I do have my doubts.

    A conversation about gun ownership

    Link: https://www.t-g.com/stories/a-conversation-about-gun-ownership,101480

With gun violence on many peoples’ minds and with red flag laws a highly debated topic, what is the fine line between gun ownership, availability, and safety?

Bo Gill, chair of the Bedford County Republican Party and a self-described “amateur gunsmith,” explained some of the main features of different types of firearms and current regulations.

“I don’t think people think about how precious and delicate our country’s freedom is. We could lose it, and we want to hold on to that. When our framers of our Constitution came up with the Second Amendment, they saw what could happen without it,” said Gill.

However, like some gun owners, Gill agrees, “I don’t think automatic firearms have a place anywhere but war. They’re not practical and they’re a waste of ammo.”

Machines guns, sub-machine guns, AOWs (any other weapons), short-barreled rifles, and suppressors are all highly-regulated.

For example, for a machine gun, you have to be 21 years of age to purchase with a clean record. Then you have to use a Class III dealer who deals under the regulations of the National Firearms Act of 1934. You then have to complete a “Form 4” and apply for a tax transfer (which is usually a stamp). This costs around $200 and was implemented in the 1930s to discourage people from buying them.

Gill said this cost hasn’t been adjusted to today, so it may be one way to further regulate today’s purchases. In 1934, $200 is equivalent to about $4,500 today.

Apparently GunBroker likes Silencer Saturday too. Don’t worry, my feelings aren’t hurt or anything. It’s not like I’ve dedicated nearly 300 Saturdays to… Silencer Saturday!

I do have a dream of a suppressed Hi-Point. I have a feeling that is one grail gun combo I can make happen. What suppressor pairs with a Hi-Point? Don’t say a Pringles can.

Ordnance Lab had some YHM cans damaged in a fire that they are getting re-coated by Texas Tactical Gear. Honestly, that baked finish is pretty hot.

I know this is Airsoft, but these oil filter/mount reproductions are pretty cool.

Our friends at the American Suppressor Association have gained the endorsement from the Academy of Doctors of Audiology in support of suppressor deregulation. Well done everyone.

Lexington, KY – The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA), an independent medical group that focuses on evidence-based practices in the delivery of audio-vestibular care, has circulated a letter to Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC-03) and Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) supporting the deregulation of suppressors through the Hearing Protection Act. Their rationale is simple: suppressors are a tool that can help prevent noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and other hearing damage.

And SilencerCo is messing around with small arms again. I assume the T. Rex actually had ears that might be affected by 140+ dB sustained sound? Doesn’t matter, his neighbors appreciated it anyway.

Have a great week. Be safe, have fun, and we’ll see you back here next weekend for another Silencer Saturday.
