Mossberg 590A1 Review: Still the Ultimate Tactical Pump Shotgun?

James Reeves
by James Reeves

In this episode of TFBTV, James Reeves gives you a long-overdue review of the Mossberg 590A1. The Mossberg 590A1 is known for its durability: this shotgun has been tested and proven in some of the toughest environments, including military trials. It can handle a wide range of ammunition types and conditions, and it has a smooth and reliable action that makes it easy to use even in stressful situations. The Mossberg 590A1 is versatile as well. Whether you need a home defense shotgun or a tactical shotgun for law enforcement use, the Mossberg 590A1 is good to go. However, with semi-auto shotguns like the Mossberg 940 Tactical and Beretta A300 Patrol approaching the same price point as this top-of-the-line pump, is the Mossberg 590A1 still worth your attention? Especially the Vang Comp “Standard” edition James reviews in this episode – at $1,000 MSRP, should you just get a semi-auto instead? James opines today on TFBTV.

That title is tied with the Ithaca 37 and the Benelli Supernova.

Is it just me or have mossbergs been priced stupidly over the past 3-4 years? especially the 'retro' line.

sorry but not sorry. 600 bucks for a mossberg is asinine.

I own a M590A1. It's been excellent. Considering how many tactical shotguns I own, you may find it surprising that I prefer a different shotgun for home defense. Not my 590, nor my 500 Tactical or Maverick. Not my 870 Tactical either. I decided to upgrade my old H&R Pardner. It is an 870 clone, built like a tank. Totally reliable over 12 years of being the "beater" shot gun. Hogue furniture. 800 lumen LED light with mag tube mount that stays tight on the gun through 300 rounds. Burris FastFire3 on receiver rail. Fiber optic front sight that co-witnesses with the red dot. through the rail gutter. 10 rounds on Velcro shot cards (6 on left side, 4 on right side optional). Hook Velcro cut to be clear of takedown pins. Shockwave brand forend strap. Quality sling on swivels. All for less than a bare bones 18.5" Remington 870. A well equipped self-defense shotgun for a relative pittance... https://uploads.disquscdn.c...
