TFB Review: H&K PSG1 Kill Cam Trigger

I recently acquired a unique H&K accessory. It is a PSG1 trigger but more than that it has an interesting feature that other PSG1s do not. It has a small port on the right side of the trigger housing. It is a PSG1 Kill Cam trigger.

    H&K @ TFB:

When it comes to somewhat rare H&K collector’s items, the Kill Cam is probably near the top. So what is a Kill Cam? Allegedly these were made for discerning clients of Heckler & Koch. Specifically Swiss police departments. Here are some examples of typical Kill Cam triggers.

I found the following images on Guns International. These were for an HK33 rifle. You can tell by the two-pin lower and skeletonized ejector lever.

These Kill Cam trigger units appear to use a mechanical, old-style, camera release cable to actuate the camera shutter.

So what does the Kill Cam do? It is a camera that is mounted to a scope and every time you pull the trigger, the camera takes a photo of your sight picture. It was supposed to help with police accountability, to show what the officer was aiming at when they took the shot.

The camera below is a sort of Polaroid camera and the lens is mounted to some sort of prism/beam splitter. So the shooter could look through to aim but the camera would still be able to take the photo. Similar to Phone Skope’s Skoped Vision.

    H&K PSG1 Kill Cam

Well, I managed to acquire a Kill Cam built for a PSG1. I do not have a PSG1 but the trigger can be used in my EBO SAR8 (HK91 clone).

    PSG1 Kill Cam

Here is the PSG1 grip compared to the AC Unity grip.

I did not realize that the PSG1 trigger housing is for a semi-auto receiver with a shelf. It is not a G3 lower which would have two takedown pin holes like the HK33 trigger housings above. It also has the 0,1 selector markings. This is similar to my HK93 trigger housing.

The hammer, ejector lever and internals are very different from your standard G3/HK33 internals.

I am not sure what that axe blade looking piece is on the right side of the hammer spring.

For a .308, the PSG1 ejector lever is totally different from an HK91/G3 style ejector lever.

Something else that is different from a G3 is the safety axle. The hammer spring sits a lot lower than a typical G3 or HK93. It encroaches on the safety axle so HK cut a U notch to clear the hammer spring. You cannot use another safety, it will hit the spring.

What sets the PSG1 Kill Cam trigger apart from regular PSG1 triggers is this electronic port.

When I pull the trigger, it pushes that bent piece of metal to make contact with the electronic camera trigger. I assume this completes the circuit and the camera it is connected to takes a photograph. This is completely different from the mechanical push cable method of the HK33 Kill Cam.

The PSG1 trigger pull is amazingly light. I have heard it is adjustable but have not found out how to adjust the trigger pull. With regards to the Kill Cam, trying to complete this system seems nigh impossible. I have not heard of any other PSG1 Kill Cam and the only other instances are for G3 or HK33. Which camera systems would not work with this Kill Cam trigger anyway.  This could very well be a unicorn.
