[SHOT 2022] Radian Releases Ramjet (and Afterburner)

I have to admit to being a bit of a Radian fanboy. The Raptor charging handle is second to none in my opinion, and I have one in each of my ARs at home. It looks like there might be two more Radian products coming to my personal guns, the Ramjet barrel, and Afterburner micro-compensator.

    Radian Releases Ramjet (and Afterburner)

The world of pistol compensators has gotten a lot more competitive in recent years. With Radian entering the market it’s only going to get more so. Radian is showing off their Ramjet and Afterburner combo at SHOT this year. The Ramjet is a match-grade Glock 19 barrel that will be available for Gen3 through Gen5. It has factory porting at the muzzle but no threads. The Afterburner micro-compensator attaches directly to the barrel without the need for threads.

We have previously covered the Ramjet/Afterburner combo, so I won’t bore you by retreading old ground except to hit some highlights.

    • Compatible with Gen3-Gen5 Glock 19s
    • 50-state legal
    • Measured 44% recoil reduction as a pair (with 115gr 9mm)
    • Makes the Glock 19 slide the same length as a 17

The length increase is actually a really neat engineering trick. The Ramjet/Afterburner combo was designed by Radian so that it will fit in any standard Glock 17 holster. No dremel or file required.

Radian has already released the MSRP for the combo, $389.95. Which, ouch. But, when you consider that you’re getting a match-grade barrel and a micro-compensator for your Glock 19, the price tag starts to look a little more bearable. There is of course the argument that “well 9mm doesn’t need a compensator”. Which is true. It doesn’t. But if we only bought things we absolutely 100% needed, you’d still be carrying your great-grandpa’s Colt Army Model 1860.

    So What’s New?

Radian has provided an estimated release date, Q1 of this year. Upon release, you’ll be able to purchase the combo in black or burnt bronze, but Radian confirmed that the combo will be offered in different color options further down the road. Since we all know that the aesthetic appeal of your gun is the most important part of gun ownership, this is big news.

Also today Radian confirmed that the Gen3 model Ramjet/Afterburner combo will work with the Zev OZ9C and the Shadow Systems MR920.
