The New LevAR Ratcheting Charging Handle from Springfield Armory

I’ll admit it. I’ve succumbed to the temptation to buy some pretty cheap ammo over the last year and a half and while I’d like to say that most of that ammo would run fine through all of my ARs, it sometimes just isn’t the case. Removing a stuck casing can be a bit of an ordeal sometimes and while mortaring your AR is a viable method of clearing it, it’s not always optimal, and sometimes it can damage your rifle if done improperly. Cue in the new Springfield Amory LevAR ratcheting charging handle. The new charging handle works like a traditional charging handle but also features a new ratcheting feature that aids in clearing your firearm with stubborn or stuck cases.

While many of you (myself included) probably carry around a small hammer and rods for clearing stuck casings and other field cleaning tasks, not everyone has the room to do so, and in some cases, it would be extremely impractical to do so. There is now no need to carry these tools around with the LevAR ratcheting charging handle.

A stuck cartridge in your AR-15 due to out of spec ammunition renders your weapon useless until cleared. Carbine instructors train students to slam the butt of the gun against the ground to free stuck casings causing potential damage to your firearm. The patented LevAR™ ratcheting charging handle gives users a 3:1 mechanical advantage over traditional charging handles and clears stuck cartridges with ease while keeping your muzzle pointed safely down range. Simply deploy the ratcheting arm and pull back to eject the casing. The LevAR™ installs in seconds and is compatible with any standard AR-15 upper receiver.

The new LevAR from Springfield Amory is retail priced right at $99 making it cost around the same as some of the other high-end aftermarket AR-15 charging handles out there. However, the LevAR adds a lot of functionality and utility to the standard charging handle and I think that it is something worth looking into, especially during these days with limited ammunition availability (would also probably be a good thing to have around if you reload). Would you guys buy one of these and put one on your AR? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
