POTD: The Heckler & Koch HK416D in 6.8mmx43

    Heckler & Koch HK416D in 6.8mmx43

Each day a different image from the World of firearms. We call this POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, and it is our daily article series where we go to great lengths trying to find the most interesting pictures for you out there. Today the image itself is very basic, but it shows another gem from the Heckler and Koch Gray Room: The Heckler & Koch HK416D in 6.8mmx43.

Did you know that H&K actually produced a 6.8mm HK416 for contract requirements? Another unique and rare example that James Rupley and I uncovered at Heckler and Koch’s Gray Room while filming for the upcoming Vickers Guide H&K Volume I&II Books.

It seems a complete weapon only exists at the H&K’s Patent Room in Germany, which looks just like a standard Heckler & Koch HK416. The magazines look the same as usual, but are marked “6.8mm”. Perhaps it should be called the HK468? Or what do you suggest?

There are upcoming Vickers Guide Books on this subject, so stay tuned for more information.

For more H&K Gray Room content, check these articles out: Heckler & Koch G11 in the Gray Room, Heckler & Koch’s Gray Room – 2017-2018 Edition & The Gray Room. For more information about the 6.8x43mm caliber, we suggest you take a look at this article: Modern Intermediate Calibers 003: The 6.8x43mm Remington SPC.

If you had an HK416, which would be your holy grail caliber?
