POTD: Heckler & Koch G36C In The Hands Of GSG9

    G36 GSG9 Grenzschutzgruppe 9

In this Photo Of The Day, someone even pixelated the patches before the photo was released. Well, it’s not often we get to see any pictures at all from the German Special Unit GSG9 (Grenzschutzgruppe 9), so we’re thankful for anything. The unit was cool before most of the readers of this blog were born.

This is by far the shortest Heckler & Koch G36 I’ve seen in a while. The “C” stands for “Compact”, with a barrel length of 228 mm / 9″. That’s pretty short for a 5.56 mm rifle, and if you ever fired one you know. It looks almost as tall as it’s long, which is kind of silly but if it works for them I guess it would work for me.

Many years ago we had some photos of the Heckler & Koch G36C in Mali, with the Swedish UN Force in Mali.

H&K describes the G36C as “The ultra-short assault rifle” – “The dimensions of a submachine gun with the terminal ballistics of the 5.56 mm NATO round. Developed for special tactical applications by police and military special forces.”

    Caption, machine-translated:

GSG 9 BPOL – In order to be able to cooperate with the best special units in the world, a constant dialogue with various national and international units is necessary. Internationally, for this purpose, the #Alas cooperation was founded on a European level. In this network, important workshops and large-scale exercises take place every year in order to maintain a regular exchange with the international partner units. In addition, the GSG 9 maintains friendly contacts with individual units in other countries, especially in the USA with the US Navy Seals, Delta , HRT of the FBI, but also to the Israeli Yamam.

The photo comes from Bundespolizei Karriere, so if you’re looking for a new career, this may be it?

Look again at the picture above. How many of those accessories can you name under 60 seconds? No cheating!
