The Thunder Beast Arms Corporation, or TBAC for short, has put out some solid suppressors in their thirteen-year history. This Cheyenne, Wyoming-based operation was founded in 2007 with a simple and passion-driven mission: “…to make the best sound suppressor for precision and long-range shooting.” The following year saw the release of their 30P suppressor, followed by a 2009 update in the then-flagship 30P-1 titanium can. Over the years as TBAC continued to progress and innovate, the 30P-1 gave rise to their Ultra series, and in January of 2015 the 9-inch Thunder Beast can was retired and replaced by the Ultra 9.

Sound suppression of the beefy .338 cartridge has long been a TBAC specialty.

For the last several years TBAC has offered silencers in several flavors and lengths for different applications. If you need a more compact footprint than the 9, you might opt for an Ultra 5 or Dominus-SR. You could scale down further to a Dominus-K-SR if need be. TBAC also makes 10.4 and 11-inch suppressors for .338 rifles, which Silencer Shop reports that “effectively suppresses the muzzle blast of the .338 Mag down to levels comparable to suppressed .308 caliber firearms“. Last year, they also expanded their product offerings to include bipods. Now after five years of Ultra series successes, TBAC is announcing a new update. With the following November 9th press release, they’ve introduced their Gen 2 Ultra series cans, new for 2020.

The new Gen 2 version of the Ultra 7 shaves 1.7 ounces off of its predecessor's weight, tipping the scales at 8 ounces.

    INTRODUCING ULTRA SERIES GEN 2

We are pleased to announce the next generation of the ULTRA suppressor line. This design change affects the ULTRA 5, ULTRA 7, and ULTRA 9 models only. Compared to the original ULTRA series (Gen1) introduced in 2015, these are on average 1.7 ounces lighter (about 20%) and about 2 dB quieter. This is a “Tubeless” design, a change debuted on our Dominus earlier this year. Gen2 Ultra 9’s, 7’s, and 5’s can be identified by serial numbers higher than C40000 or by the visual changes.

In short: Quieter and Lighter! Same size, same price.

ULTRA 9 GEN2: available in .30 and 6.5 mm calibers
    The .30 cal ULTRA 9 Gen2 meters at 135 dB (milspec left/right) and 123 dB at shooter’s-ear, shooting full-power (hot) M118LR ammunition from a 20″ AI AX.

    AVAILABILITY
GEN2 models are shipping immediately to fulfill existing ULTRA orders on the build sheet starting November 9, 2020.

What happened to the 223 ULTRA 7?
With the ULTRA Gen2 updates, a prototype “223 ULTRA 7 Gen2” meters the exact same on 223/556 as the 6.5 ULTRA 7 Gen2, which is still quieter than an original 223 ULTRA 7, so the original 223 ULTRA 7 is replaced with the 6.5 ULTRA 7 Gen2.
