Coming to America: The GM6 Lynx .50-cal Reciprocating Bullpup
Over the years, TFB has brought you some occasional tidbits about the GM6 Lynx. In 2018 it featured in a “Picture of the Day” post, in 2016 Nick brought you some cool factory tour content, and in 2014 he gave you a cool video of this behemoth in action. This unusual rifle is almost undeniably cool, but there have been two primary problems with it so far. For one, access: the Lynx is made in Hungary by a company called SERO International – and they don’t appear to have a US-based direct subsidiary or sister company to provide this .50 to potential buyers in the states. The second issue has been cost. On the rare occasion you could find one, you were looking at a price tag probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000. Not exactly budget-friendly for most shooters!
Fortunately, it looks like one of those two problems is seeing a resolution. Based up in the Pacific Northwest, just south of Seattle, there is an interesting outfitter with an equally interesting name: Hurricane Butterfly. They have begun importing these uncommon bullpups stateside, an apropos endeavor for this uncommon company. For background, Hurricane Butterfly’s “About Us” section on their website reads:
et bella viribus mortiferum – Beautiful Yet Deadly Strength (latin)
paradox |noun | par-a-dox | \per-e-daks\ 1: a statement or argument that is so seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet true.
Like an avenging angel, vengeance so swift, elegant and formidably deadly. Beautiful and devastating, a significant paradox inspiring foreboding reverence. Simultaneously striking divine majesty and oppressive trepidation.
Prior to becoming an international arms dealer, the now-owner’s very first project was building an M2HB .50 caliber machine gun. The founder’s needed a company name, behold, Hurricane Butterfly was born.
ante omnia armari aut pax aut bellum – “before all else, be armed in either peace or war.”
Hurricane Butterfly was founded in 1997 and moved to the Great Pacific Northwest in 2010. Located just south of Seattle, WA, Hurricane Butterfly is proud to outfit enthusiasts, Law Enforcement, Military and Federal Agency personnel alike. Product Info & Specs
The GM6 ‘Lynx’ is a semi-automatic anti-material rifle. The rifle was designed to be compact, lightweight, accurate, low-recoil, portable and easily deployable for immediate use. Most rifles chambered in .50 BMG are heavy, long, bulky, heavily recoiling and are of a slowly operated bolt action. Many not even magazine fed.
Due to the bullpup configuration, most of the weight is re-distributed to the rear of the rifle allowing for the possibility of off hand firing. This is near impossible with most other .50 BMG rifles. Thanks to the unique barrel recoil technology, the rifle’s recoil is less than the other rifles in the same category. This design also allows the rifle to be transported at a length of only 915mm/36.5″. It weighs just 25lbs, with a slight rear bias weight distribution. Assembled with match grade barrels, capable of sub-MOA accuracy with match grade ammunition.
Comes with spare magazine, pair of 34mm 50 BMG scope rings, spare barrel spring, bi-pod, cleaning kit, Pelican 1750 hard case and manual.
