Federal has announced that its latest offering to the ammunition market has just started arriving at dealer locations. The New Federal Practice & Defend ammunition packs will contain 50 HST Personal Defense loads as well as 50 Federal Syntech rounds intended for practice.
Federal Introduces New Practice & Defend Ammunition Packs
These 100-round combo ammunition packs are intended to produce an identical point of impact, muzzle velocities, and trajectories. This way you can practice with the Syntech ammunition and carry the HST ammunition.
Federal Syntech has fast become one of my favorite factory produced rounds. I load my own synthetically jacketed ammunition but when I need to buy factory ammo I really like the Syntech. The Federal Syntech reduces metal fouling, reduces barrel heat and friction and also minimizes backsplash when shooting steel targets – this is especially useful at steel challenge matches.
Federal HST has also been my #1 carry round (Specifically the HST 147gr LE 9mm). Federal HST expands both consistently and reliably and has been fed through almost every single one of my 9mm firearms that I own.
Federal will be offering the Practice and Defend Ammunition Packs in the following pairings:
- P9HST2TM100 / 9mm Luger 147-grain 100 Round HST/Syntech Training Match, 1000 fps / $60.99
- P9HST1TM100 / 9mm Luger 124-grain 100 Round HST/Syntech Training Match, 1150 fps / $60.99
- P40HST1TM100 / 40 S&W 180-grain 100 Round HST/Syntech Training Match, 1010 fps / $68.99
- P45HST2TM100 / 45 Auto 230-grain 100 Round HST/Syntech Training Match, 890 fps / $73.99
As of writing, the Practice and Defend ammunition packs have started arriving in dealers hands so be on the lookout for these novel ammunition packs and get out there and practice! If you’re unable to find the ammunition in stores, the new ammunition can also be directly purchased from Federal online. You can visit www.federalpremium.com to order.
I think these ammunition packs are a great way to get people consistent with both their gun and specifically the ammunition they carry for defense. Many novice gun owners will not know that defensive rounds often have a pretty significant point of impact shift when compared to the ammunition they practice with. If the ammunition parings work as intended, I think this new offering might soon be a trend more ammunition manufacturers start following. Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
