Photo Of The Day – The location is the Pacific Ocean and we’re on-board the USS Chancellorsville looking at the muzzle flash from a .50 BMG Machine Gun.

The ship was launched in 1988 and is named after the Battle of Chancellorsville of the American Civil War.

PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 07, 2020) Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Austin Perry instructs Logistics Specialist 3rd Class Annette Hertz as she fires a .50-caliber machine gun during crew-served weapons training aboard the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62). Chancellorsville is forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

PHILIPPINE SEA (June 07, 2019) – At approximately 11:45 am on June 7, 2019 while operating in the Philippine Sea, a Russian destroyer (Udaloy I DD 572) made an unsafe maneuver against USS Chancellorsville (CG-62), closing to ~50-100 feet putting the safety of her crew and ship at risk.

While Chancellorsville was recovering its helicopter on a steady course and speed when the Russian ship DD572 maneuvered from behind and to the right of Chancellorsville accelerated and closed to an unsafe distance of ~50-100 feet. This unsafe action forced Chancellorsville to execute all engines back full and to maneuver to avoid collision.
