Some might mock a Marine shooting a pistol one-handed. We all know that would be pretty unwise. Especially as this Marine is Sgt. Maj. John Canley – a recent Medal of Honor recipient. Canley claims “to always shoot a pistol with only one hand – he fires more accurately that way.”

Sgt.Maj. Canley visited Marine Corps Base Quantico earlier this month and hung out with Marines of a Weapons Training Battalion stationed there. Canley spent two days at Quantico where he got to put some rounds down range and talked with young Marines. 81-year-old Canley was awarded the Medal of Honor in October 2018, for conspicuous gallantry during the Battle of Hue in 1968. The Sgt.Maj. retired from the Corps in 1981, meaning the M9 Beretta he’s shooting in the photo above wasn’t in USMC service when he retired.
