Last month, Global Ordnance announced that they are taking over importation of Grand Power firearms. Previously Eagle Imports was importing Grand Power into the US. At last week’s Big 3 East media event, Global Ordnance had two Stribog SP9A1 out for us to shoot and their pseudo prepper Canmunition.

First thing you will notice is that the Stribog SP9A1 has a tailhook brace and a collapsing adapter by Safety Harbor Firearms. I have my doubts about the legality of the Talhook on anything other than “an AR-Type Pistol” as per GHW original approval letter. Click here to read all about it.

Aside from the questionable nature of the Tailhook, It does serve its purpose. However the Safety Harbor Firearms adapter leaves much to be desired. Due to the shape of the SP9A1, the sliding bars sit very high up on the receiver. This causes your cheek weld to be too high. Global Ordnance mounted a red dot low so it cowitnesses with factory folding irons. The problem is that you really have to bear down your cheek to get a proper sight picture. A riser would solve this problem but then your BUIS become obsolete.

A simpler solution would be an endcap with a picatinny rail. Then you can use a SIG MPX style folding stock or FS193 brace from SB Tactical.

The recoil of the Stribog was a bit punchy. Much stronger than I was expecting. While this SP9A1 is the newer version with a non-reciprocating charging handle, they hope to have the A3 version in the fall. The A3 will have be delayed blowback. Possibly even roller delayed blowback.

As it stands now the SP9A1 will retail for $800 and come with three magazines. There was a slight issue with the magazines that my friend Todd Jaderborg noticed during Big 3 East. The number of content creators were less than previous years so there was time where no one was shooting the Stribog. So the magazines were left out on the shooting bench in the sun. In a short amount of time, the polymer swelled and made it difficult to insert into the mag well. Kevin of Global Ordnance used to work at SGM Tactical and is looking into making metal magazines but nothing set in stone at the moment.

My friend Todd Jaderborg is a survialist enthusiast and has written a few articles on the subject. While he commends Global Ordnance on the concept, the execution needs a little work. In the prepper community, according to Todd, round cylindrical cans are less desirable because they are not efficient use of space. Since the cans are round you have areas unused and wasted between the cans. When Todd was explaining this to Kevin, I recommended that they look into a source for SPAM shaped cans. Then they would decorate SPAM cans to look like green ammo cans. With a rectangular can shape, they would stack better and I don’t mean just vertically. They can pack in tighter and take up less space if they switch to a SPAM style can. Hopefully this will be possible in the future. Until then, stay tuned for more info on their website.
