Reader's Choice BEST AR-15: POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO

This was one of the most interesting Reader’s Choice polls we have conducted thus far! The voting results we received were close, but simultaneously the victor won by a landslide. The diversity of suggestions from you, our beloved readers, was very impressive as well. The thing that was consistent across the board is the caliber: 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. We did state that you could suggest any caliber you want in an AR-15 platform if you had a good argument to back it, but no one even made an honest attempt. Clearly, the 5.56 NATO is your #1 cartridge and is not going anywhere (which is a surprise to nobody). How about some results though?! Your WINNER for March’s poll of Reader’s Choice BEST AR-15 is the POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO!!! The full results from the voting can be read below:

  1. POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO – 44.7% WINNER
  2. Colt LE6920 M4 Carbine 5.56 NATO – 7.9%
  3. BCM RECCE-14 KMR-A Carbine 5.56 NATO – 7.6%
  4. Daniel Defense DDM4 V11 LW 5.56 NATO – 6.4%
  5. LWRCI Individual Carbine (IC) Enhanced 5.56 NATO – 4.3%
  6. Smith & Wesson M&P-15 Sport II 5.56 NATO – 3.7%
  7. Ruger AR-556 5.56 NATO – 3.2%
  8. Knight’s Armament SR-15 E3 MOD 2 M-LOK 5.56 NATO – 3.1%
  9. FN FN-15 SRP Tactical 5.56 NATO – 2.9%

All of the voting above represents roughly 83.8% of your votes while the rest of the approximate 16.2% was miscellaneously distributed among your 20 or so suggestions who did not crack the top 9 in voting. The voting is interesting because we at TFB did not rig these results in anyway… but POF might have. Maybe they made a shout-out at their fan base on social media and drove their loyal customers to our poll?… We genuinely do not know, but they sure as heck showed up in droves!

It is not like Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) sort of got people to vote for their P415 Edge, but they embarrassingly crushed this poll. While the POF P415 Edge 5.56 NATO pulled in 44.7% of the votes, the placings of 2nd through 9th was only 39.1% combined! Other interesting things to note are Knight’s Armament and LWRC were very late reader suggestions and they both made it into the Top 9 for voting. So it always matters that you give us your suggestions no matter how late in the game it is.

READER COMMENTS

When we run the Reader’s Choice every month what can be more entertaining than the results you guys and gals create through your voting is your side commentary. This month was no exception. Let’s dive into some of the more cringe-worthy, feelings-triggering, and hilarious comments you all posted!

Come on? No PSA Freedom?

-ASDF

Yeah, there was not much love for Palmetto State Armory (PSA) although their stuff sells like hot cakes on the internet.

So… if I might suggest: if TFB were to provide me with a sample of each of these, I would be able to provide a proper evaluation with proper data… And then the vote would have real meaning…

-George Smythson

Nice try George… Nice try…

JP Enterprises CTR-02 in .223

And the fact that no-one else has mentioned it already is rather sad.

-Steve_7

Not much love for the JP either, unfortunately, but they do make some wicked PCC (pistol caliber carbines) if that was more of the category we were voting on.

Delton DTI Sport. Don’t laugh.

-Jack_A_Lope

Too late! We already laughed.

Honestly this is like asking what the best brand of bottled water is. Some bottles might be prettier than others but in the end it doesn’t matter. There’s nothing a $1700 Daniel Defense can do that a $500 Palmetto State Armory can’t, unless your concern is looking good on instagram.

-autosear

Number one rule of gun ownership… always do it for the ‘Gram.

My artisan crafted Anderson Mfg/PSA/Magpul/SB Tactical/Krylon non SBR pistol.

-shiggs

Sounds like you are reading the wrong article, good sir. You must have been trying to find “Hot Gat or Fudd Crap.”

This is a trick question! They’re all the same!

-Rick

“I feel like I’m taking crazy pills” comes to mind…

I voted for the Springfield just to piss everyone off while their righteous indignation meter gets pegged to 10.🤪

-Marc

That is some Master Jedi level trolling you conducted there Marc, and by the looks of how everyone responded they feel right into your trap.

Meh, it's a poll, and we all know polls are fake...

  • Marine6680 Marine6680 on Apr 08, 2019

I missed this the first time around...

I like others, if the comments are any indication... Am suspicious of the winner, and by the margin it did so...

Leaving that one out... The top three make sense to me. The Colt is a no frills AR that is built to spec, and will work, without breaking the bank. It has more clout than the newer, lower cost brands, that are of good quality. The BCM, I think offers the best bang for buck ratio of the nicer over $1000 ARs. Being well made, reliable, and with extra features over plain ARs. The DD is similar to the BCM in that regard, but at a bit higher price, but typically with nicer finish/polish, basically it is a solid rifle that has a prettied up face.

I was sold on the POF for all of a few minutes, until my brain caught up with me... It didn't take much research to decide it wasn't for me. Not that it is bad, but that it didn't really offer any advantages that made it worth it. I quickly dropped the idea of a piston AR entirely, after a bit of reading.
