Federal Goes Deep: 9mm 135gr Hydrashok Deep Service Pistol Gel Test

We shoot Federal 9mm 135gr Hydrashok Deep ammunition from a Glock Model 22 with a 4.5″ LWD 9mm conversion barrel into Clearballistics ballistic gel to measure velocity, penetration, expansion/fragmentation, and retained weight.

Results:

Bare gel:
Penetration: 19.6″, 19.0″
Retained weight: 135.6gr, 135.8gr
Max expansion: 0.559″, 0.532″
Min expansion: 0.457″, 0.458″

Heavy clothing:
Penetration: 20.7″, 18.9″
Retained weight: 136.3gr, 134.9gr
Max expansion: 0.571″, 0.540″
Min expansion: 0.434″, 0.432″

    I want my bullet to penetrate deep enough to poke a hole in the target.
    If it expands That's good.
    But, Poking the hole is the agenda.
    What makes the best is the shooter, bullet placement is the key.

    135 grain seems to be the sweet spot for most 9mm loads.
    But for now I'm sticking with my Hornady Critical Defense in my G19.
