Around the corner: New Tikka T1x Rimfire

Tikka is going to release a Tikka T1x. It’s uncertain if the Tikka T1x will be shown already at SHOT Show 2018 or IWA in Germany later in the spring. My guess is that we will see it at SHOT already in a few weeks.

I don’t think Tikka put a countdown to SHOT Show 2018 and the wording “The one Xperience you’ve been waiting for” by coincidence.

The T1x will be Tikka’s first rifle in .22LR and 17 WMR and I expect it to shoot very accurately. Tikka’s motto is that “every Tikka rifle has to go through accuracy testing to prove the rifle can perform under 1 M.O.A. accuracy prior to being sold anywhere“.

The question is if Tikka is allowed to build a Sako Quad competitor so that you can change the barrel and caliber?

As Tikka already have the calibers 22 WMR and 17 Mach 2 in their filters on their homepage, this is an indication that the Tikka T1x also will have a system to change the barrel, or that there are other Tikkas around the corner for these calibers.

Below: All these calibers are available in the filtering options at Tikka, but there is no rifle that has them (check the small marked boxes). Not yet anyway.

The barrel on the T1x is 50.8 cm / 20″ long and comes threaded from the factory, but there will be 16″ versions as well. Many European countries have a minimum barrel length of 20″ for hunting rifles.

The magazine holds ten rounds and you will find interchangeable pistol grips and spacers for the stock.

I’m sure the trigger will be excellent as usual, with an adjustable pull or 2-4lbs. (about 900g-1.8kg).

The weight will be around 2,5 kilograms or 88 ounces.

From the beginning, the T1x will not be available in a left-handed version, but if the sales develop I’m sure they’ll make one.

If Tikka decides to build a Tikka T1x TAC A1 version they will have a serious contender to the Ruger Precision Rimfire.

Another possible competitor is the Sako QUAD, available in 22 LR, 17 Mach 2, 22 WMR and 17 HMR or the CZ455 or the ones from Savage. (Yes, I am aware there are other 22 LR rifles and brands out there)

Expect a price around 499 USD for the Tikka T1x.

According to rumors the 22LR will available in April and the 17HMR will be available around May 2018.

For instance, in the USA, Whittaker Guns have them on preorder.

***GUNS WILL ARRIVE LATE APRIL, BEGINNING OF MAY***

Tikka has a changed the design of the T3x platform to a rimfire platform. Introducing the T1x chambered in 22LR. Barrel is just the right contour to provide stability without adding noticable weight, and it’s threaded!

If they build a Tac A1 22lr version hopefully they don't take the short cuts that Ruger did just to keep the price super low. I get it from a mass marketing standpoint to keep the price at $400, but I'd much rather pay more $ for something that has a metal chassis/action interface. With the ruger if it doesn't shoot well, now you have to chase the barrel and the action plastic stock interface, at that point you might as well just toss the gun. In addition with the Ruger while it does have a 2 screw action attachment, the rear screw goes into the white metal trigger housing that is not bolted to the action, it's a slide fit held in place by the cocking piece. So the rear action screw is not solidly bolted to the action itself.

Tikka is just a brand name for Sako. It is made in same factory with Sakos at Riihimäki in Finland. So Tikka is not building anything and Beretta decides what they do.
