Cutting Down Christmas Trees with Hickok45
One of my favorite Christmas traditions is going out and getting my own tree. No parking lots or we-cut farms for me; cutting down my tree is both about holiday fun and making sure it survives through Christmas. I’ve been doing this for decades – as far back as I can remember – and as the years have gone by there is something about my tree that’s changed. My ornaments – who am I kidding, all my decorations – lean heavily towards a hunting and firearms theme. But as much time and thought as I’ve put into tracking down and, yes, making my gun-themed stuff, there is something I’ve never even considered doing: cutting down my tree with my favorite rifle.
Apparently hickok45 did think of it because he posted a video on YouTube of himself wandering through the woods, choosing trees, and cutting them down – with his rifle. I’m sure I should make the usual disclaimer comments about how just because it worked out well in a video doesn’t mean you should do it yourself and how there’s definitely a risk of ricochet…but I have to admit, this is an awesome idea. I also admit I wish I’d thought of it myself.
On a side note – related, but still a side note – I thought I’d ask if y’all are interested in some of the DIY gun-themed Christmas decorations and ornaments. Last year I posted the DIY shotshell lights, which I think are fantastic, and I thought this year I might put up some of the ornaments made from spent brass. Weigh in, guys – and gals, I know there are a few of you out there.
Enjoy the video! How are you guys implementing your love of guns and ammo on your trees and in your Christmas decorations this year?

In the early 90's I was purchasing 1440 round cases of Chinese AK ammo on stripper clips for $99. We would burn it up through our SKS's in goofy ways. Shooting down trees was a favorite.
That is a good way to cut down a tree!!! One of the first things one should do if they buy a tree, is to cut a inch or so off the trunk to allow the tree to soak up water. Using that shotgun is BETTER than any saw since it "frays" the stump allowing more water to be soaked up!
