PFC Coatings took apart a SCAR 17S to coat it with FDE Gun Kote. According to their Instagram page, there is something missing in this photo. They have not commented on what that is. Can you tell what is missing?

  • Henry Reed

What is it missing? A target.

    • Rightway1208

      A reason to buy a $1600.00 rifle for $3,000.00.

  • A bearded being from beyond ti

A reason for buying this rifle.

    • Jim N Jenna SK

Own two, great guns. Very accurate as well.

    • xebat

Best Battle rifle on the market.

    • Uniform223

Because it is sooo “operator” and lets not forget… its featured in CoD. The only two reasons to buy any firearms nowadays.

  • Jeffrey Smith

Hmmm… I don’t have mine in front of me but isn’t there a front sling mount? I don’t see it.

    • I agree

They probably had to take the sling mount off to mount the aftermarket rail extension. I think you won 🙂

      • Jeffrey Smith

Per their instagram page it was, “Stock latch and pistol main spring.”

    • Rightway1208

Front sling mount is integrated into the side of the aftermarket frail extension.

  • Rick O’Shay

Why are there two springs under the barrel and rail? The long one looks right, the short one immediately underneath it doesn’t look like it belongs.

  • Dennis Stotlemyer

    Gas Tube?

    • Nicholas C

The SCAR17S is piston driven so no gas tube.

      • iksnilol

        p-p-piston tube then?

        • Xtorin O’hern

tappet operated, gas hits an extension of the carrier, so no tube

          • iksnilol

That means the gas just goes all around all willy nilly?

Doesn’t sound safe nor conducive to suppressor use.

          • roguetechie

No iksni, the tappet piston system is like on the M1 carbine. It pressurizes the tappet which thwacks the carrier hard enough to power the cycle. The bullet leaves the barrel after the thwack and the gas drains back out through the gas port.

          • roguetechie

I felt good when you up voted my comment below, so often when I try to explain things to people I completely fail lol. I can always tell it’s happening when the telltale eye glaze sets in.

  • Raoul O’Shaugnessy

    A reasonable price point.

    • Norm

  • A.WChuck

Missing: Operational Operator? Or the firing pin.

    • Anonymoose

They didn’t take the BCG apart, so I would assume the firing pin is still in there.

      • Jim N Jenna SK

You would think they would take the bcg apart if this was a fully broken down 17s. Still cool tho.

  • Topo Solitario

Is IKEA on the weapons market now? 😮

  • Anonymoose

    The charging handle?

    • Nicholas C

      It is there.

  • ShootingFromTheHip

Is this picture giving anyone else serious anxiety, with all those tiny parts and cracks in the floor??

    • USMC Dr

that was my first thought.. I have trouble looking at it for fear my 3 yr old will run into the pic with his Red Man baton swinging…

      • Lascivious Joy Monkey

I know right? ShootingFromTheHip & USMC Dr your drop dead on point with your assessments….LOL SCAR replacement parts battle kit requires a rather large box with handles & a hernia truss to carry it compared to your off the shelf AR. Can a corpse smile…. Eugene Stoner probably is at this very moment. 😉

    • Vanns40

Not to mention the fact that this would be the EXACT moment your wife decided to start vacuuming.

  • Mack

Thats the way it should come, one color of FDE, instead of the mismatched look it comes factory as. Reason i took the black one from the factory.

    • iksnilol

Even worse, then you get like 5 shades of black.

    • Schnee

I view this as a feature. You can blend in if you find yourself in a tan Cubist painting.

  • Brett

A Lance Corporal screaming at him to put his rifle back together.

    • Vanns40

  • Schnee

    10. Some BMW car keys and douchey driving gloves?
    9. The angry dude in the next stall at the shooting range who is suffering from the side blast given off by that muzzle brake?
    8. A broken stock hinge latch?
    7. A $3500 NightForce optic?
    6. A distressed, way curved down baseball hat? Operator-y Blackwater or just plain velcro where a monotone American Flag should be?
    5. A freaking plain brown cardboard box that FN sends every $3000 SCAR in?
    4. A broken bolt carrier from bad heat treating?
    3. A butt-hurt LaRue owner who claims his $3000 gun shoots just as well, even though it looks just like a DPMS AR-10?
    2. A replacement for the UGG-boot stock?
    1. (drum roll, please) About 3 pounds (pick one up, shockingly light).

    • James Young

      Cynical, but still funny

      • Lascivious Joy Monkey

I beg to differ, cynical but epic & funny…LMAO 😉

    • cwp

Must admit, #5 was my first cranky reaction. For a second I actually thought, “Huh, nice of them to ship the rifle case inside a cardboard box to protect it” before realizing, oh.

    • SerArthurDayne

You’re so angry but so am I so it’s funny cause it’s true.

  • That Guy

    Whats missing? Sights.

    • Dan Atwater

You mean besides the two sights that are right there in the picture, plain as day?

  • DW

Fireclean! Oh i mean, one gallon of crisco

    • Bronson

What does this have to do with Fireclean?

    • Vanns40

Just for that you win the consolation prize of a head of lettuce.

  • Joseph Goins

The best replacement part? A new lower by Handl Defense. It allows you to use any SR-25 pattern magazine as opposed to the proprietary SCAR 17 mag.
Check them out: www . handldefense . com/product/mk17-m110/

    • iksnilol

      Kinda advertisment, isn’t it?

      • Stan Darsh

Kinda sounds like it. Although, the Scar-17 should have been made to accept the ubiquitos SR25/LR308 mags from the factory instead of spending $70 for a painted FN FAL mag.

        • Nicholas C

The mags are $30-40 not $70

      • Joseph Goins

        Kinda sarcasm, isn’t it?

        • iksnilol

Nah, I mean, your post was kinda like an ad. “ooo, you have X, you should buy Y for it… here’s the link”.

          • Joseph Goins

Who would buy that hunk of junk? It costs $400-500, weights twice as much, and gains you almost no functionality. The ability to take SR-25 pattern mags is a minimal gain for the tradeoff.

    • Green Hell

This is actually THE most stupid SCAR replacement part you can think of, period. I mean, you just spent several grand on the gun, just to spend another f*****g 400 bucks to make it heavier and uglyer so you can save 15 bucks on each mag you buy for it? Sounds dumb indeed, considering FN mags are perfectly fine and you have plenty cheaper alternatives for SCAR mags without the need to bucher your gun for them.

      • Joseph Goins

It was sarcasm. However, the SR-25 pattern magazine would be a lot more common in a zombie apocalypse. Isn’t that why everyone wants Glock?

  • tsubaka

    bolt release?

    • Nicholas C

It is there. Fou pieces up and to the right of the S in Coatings.

  • Maddmike

    Firing pin?

  • The Irredeemable Raven

    21 rounds.

  • Guest

The charging handle isn’t there, is it?…

  • Gary Kirk

K, for starters I don’t know much about them.
Also on my phone and can’t get a really good look at the pic.. But almost looks like there aren’t enough parts in the FCG to me???

  • Holdfast_II

I was suddenly overcome with wonder at the majestic simplicity of the AR-15 DI gas system.

Also, that piston reminds me of a SAW. Man that thing must be heavy.

  • Doug King

  • mbrd

    easy; three grand is missing.

  • buzzman1

    Charging handle?

  • Irfan Zain

    Brass deflector i think

  • Andy Hills

I just wanted to point out to everyone this make a great ipad lock screen picture, it might be a bit too busy for a back ground though

  • Professor Z

How about markings on the receiver? It’s missing Scar 17s, FN, serial number etc.
