Double stack 1911-style pistols are huge in competitive shooting. They combine the benefits of large magazines with the sweet, glass rod break of a 1911 trigger. Also, to scoot just into Major Power Factor, many shooters opt for the .40 S&W cartridge. Travis Tomasie, a pro shooter with MasterPiece Arms, helped to design a pistol with all of these features. Aimed directly at those looking for a competition gun out of the box, this is the new MPA DS40 TT Comp Pistol.

Remington have introduced a new competition pistol. Developed in collaboration with their team captain Travis Tomasie, the new pistol is a 1911 chambered in .40S&W. Tomasie, the captain of Remington’s shooing team, is a former member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and a gold medalist in both the IPSC Handgun World Shoot and the IPSC US Handgun Championship.

Mythbusters has been on the air since 2003 and is a favorite of many viewers not only because they prove or disprove myths and experiment with special effects but because they get to play with guns and explosives on a semi-regular basis. Among their various gun-related episodes was one dealing with the reality – or lack thereof – of what they termed the “modern version of the quick draw.” According to hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman viewers had repeatedly asked whether the rapid magazine changes done in movies are actually possible. Although we can all accurately predict the outcome of this one, it’s still an interesting video (and it includes competitive shooter Travis Tomasie, which is pretty cool).
