Today’s episode is a continuation of our basic knowledge series that pulls back the curtain on sound science for suppressor lovers and the physical properties of making gunshots quieter. Let’s take a look.

About a decade ago I discovered a ‘cheat code’ for my love of shooting firearms – silencers. With the right suppressor, the right host (gun), and the right ammunition, the enjoyment of shooting is elevated to the next level. So, after many years, about 200 silencers, and hundreds of thousands of rounds on target, it wasn’t a surprise that Silencer Shop asked me to share this ‘cheat code’ in the form of a beginner’s guide to silencers. If you are new to the world of quieter shooting, or you could use a refresher on the process, stick around while we discuss the basics of buying, transferring, and using suppressors.

Suppressors are one of Pete’s favorite subjects and that’s why it’s an honor to finally present one of the best episodes recorded at SHOT Show 2024 featuring Chris with Yankee Hill Machine. Many of you know that ATF Form 4 times has taken a drastic dip in the time it takes them to be processed. A lot of speculation has been posed throughout the last couple of weeks on whether or not this pace can keep up, or if this is just a temporary boost spurred on by the government and or the pressure from the growing civilian suppressor market. Looking back at this episode recorded during the 2024 SHOT Show, it’s interesting to hear what Pete and Chris have to say about the current state of the suppressor market, and where they think it’s going this year.

Breakthrough Clean Technologies, based in Louisville, Colorado, was founded in 2013. As the name implies, their focus is on cleaning products – primarily for firearms, but they also deal with some other areas like lenses and boats. Their original product was their Military-Grade Solvent, which is currently offered in a spectrum of options from small 15ml spray bottles up to a 5-gallon drum. More recently, they’ve developed a specialized suppressor cleaning solution. Now Breakthrough Clean has announced a new suppressor cleaning kit, which incorporates their suppressor cleaner along with some purpose-built tools for maintaining your favorite cans. At the very end of August, I had the extreme pleasure of going on a tour at the Silencer Cental headquarters where all of the quiet magic happens. Silencer Central formerly Dakota Silencers has been delivering silence for over 15 years (closing in on 20!). They are arguably the largest silencer company out there and have some of the most thoughtful customer services regarding easy and painless silencer purchases. What I witnessed at their headquarters on my Silencer Central tour reflected that and more. Let’s dive right in!

James Reeves is at TriggrCon 2023 at the MCM Firearms booth to talk about the Delta S DS9 Integrally Suppressed Upper. The DS9 takes design language from other highly successful integrally suppressed designs to give their customers a unique combination of magazine options, ammunition performance, and ease of maintenance. I recently had the absolute pleasure of touring the Silencer Central headquarters in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Besides making kick-butt products they also have the distinction of being one of the most user-friendly and customer-focused silencer companies. The only way we are going to move short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, and silencers into the mainstream gun community, is through the support of the large gun companies making them just as available as pistols and long guns. FN America has just announced the release of the FN RUSH 9Ti, a 9mm pistol suppressor that is designed to fight the blowback of gas towards the shooter’s face.
