Few pistols can claim the title of wearable art, but the Cabot Guns Apocalypse 2.0 makes a compelling argument. Building on the original Apocalypse introduced in 2020, Cabot's Pennsylvania craftsmen have refined the concept into something that sits at the absolute top of the 1911 world. The centerpiece is the stainless Damascus steel slide, forged by folding two grades of stainless steel using blacksmithing techniques that predate the firearm itself, then hand-etched to pull every contour and transition into sharp relief. No two slides share the same pattern. It is, as Cabot puts it, as unique as a fingerprint.

The high-end auction houses always have some sort of interesting firearm up for auction - sometimes it’s a rare piece of history, sometimes the gun belonged to a notable figure from the past, and sometimes, it’s a set of diamond-encrusted, gold-plastered Smith & Wesson No. 1 revolvers. Admittedly, that’s extremely rare, but that’s what we see for sale at Rock Island Auction on June 27, 2026.

Folds of Honor is undoubtedly a wonderful organization for what they deliver to service members and their families. This week, at the Eurosatory defense expo in Paris, the French government signed an agreement to procure the FN EVOLYS lightweight machine gun. While the full details of the procurement are yet to be revealed a contact adjustment will see France procure up to 5,000 EVOLYS as well as a quantity of ammunition. This represents the first major contract for EVOLYS.

Liberty Ammunition has a new handgun ammunition offering. The SPIKE 2.0 is a new development on the original SPIKE ammo, which featured a NAS3 case. Some pocket pistols struggle with that case design thanks to their unsupported chambers. SPIKE 2.0 takes the bullet design of the original and pairs it with a brass case for wider compatibility.

As time has passed, Ernest Hemingway may not be quite as beloved an author as he once was, but you could argue that over his career in the first half of the 20th century, no other American writer had a greater impact on the world of words. Recently, AllOutdoor Editor and fellow TFB contributor Sam S. passed along a Gunbroker link of an 18-inch top-break single-shot that instantly caught my eye, as it has been one of the many rifles on my list of ones to either find or at least cover here on The Rimfire Report. This is a unique and somewhat primitive looking rifle that features a very unique swinging breech block. The listing called it an H.M. Quackenbush Safety Cartridge .22 Rifle. The bore looked dark, the action a bit tired, but something about it just screamed: “forgotten American boys’ rifle.” It sent me down a wonderful research rabbit hole. Today, we’re talking about   Henry Marcus Quackenbush’s clever Safety Rifle and why these unassuming little guns are actually highly collectible simply for their novelty.

The new BLK bolt-action from European American Armory (EAA) is kinda like the old “You want a Remington 700? We have a Remington 700 at home” joke. But it does offer American hunters a 700-pattern action at an affordable price, in your favorite deer caliber—as long as your favorite deer caliber is .308 or .30-06 (and there’s a good chance that it is).

The world of guns is like the world of motorcycles (and I’d know, because I pay close attention to both). There are some models that look like they should be very successful; on paper, they have a lot of desirable features. But in the real world, they’re let down by some issue that prevents them from becoming an all-time great. I would put the Savage 170 pump-action rifle squarely in that category. It could have been great, it should have been great—but it wasn’t, and it’s basically forgotten.

There can be numerous reasons for designing a new hunting cartridge: from “because I can” to non-satisfactory performance offered by existing cartridges and everything in between. One reason that has been heavily influencing cartridge designs in the United States is legislation. Many states have regulations on cartridge designs that can be used for hunting certain species within their boundaries; things like case/overall length limits, minimum caliber, straight wall only rules, etc. The new cartridge that we are taking a look at today, the 30 Whitetail, is an example of a cartridge designed to meet the law requirements, specifically the Illinois law for bottleneck deer hunting cartridges.

But the Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) continues to push back with legal action; its latest target is a notoriously tough-on-guns city.
