Back at SHOT Show, the Winchester Ammunition booth had some new products they were showing off, including new long-range ammo and a new line of cartridges specifically aimed at feeding lever-action rifles. Now, the Winchester Lever Range is on its way to dealers, and you can arm yourself with this updated lineup.

Perhaps one of the most interesting adaptations of a magazine-fed light machine gun or automatic rifle to belt feed was the Degtyarev RP-46 (Company Machine Gun), adopted in 1946, which was one of the Soviet Union’s most practical postwar attempts to improve an already proven weapon. Rather than creating an entirely new weapon, Soviet engineers took the DPM (Degtyarev Infantry, Modernized) light machine gun and adapted it to meet the changing demands of modern infantry combat, increasing its firepower. The most important change was the shift from a pan magazine to a belt feed, along with the addition of a heavier barrel to accommodate the increased firepower. These improvements gave the RP-46 greater sustained fire capability and made it more effective in longer engagements where the older DP-27/DPM system showed its limits.

Lightweight rimfire rifles are nothing new, but some push the concept further than others. The Derya TM22 Feather is built around weight reduction as a primary goal, using polymer across the receiver, handguard, stock, and magazines to keep the overall package as light as possible.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed House Bill 1144 into law on May 4, making it illegal to manufacture or produce firearms and firearm components using 3D printers. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.

BANISH Suppressors is expanding its catalog with two new stainless-steel cans, the VRMT 223 SS and the HNT 30 SS, both priced at $579. The pair represents BANISH’s push into a more accessible price tier, using all-welded stainless-steel construction to bring the cost down without abandoning performance targets that BANISH says are competitive with pricier options in the market.

Winchester Ammunition has introduced AutoBuck, a new 12-gauge buckshot ammunition built from the ground up to run reliably in semi-automatic shotguns. The load is positioned as a versatile option covering hunting, personal defense, and target shooting from a single SKU. The engineering focus here was reliability in gas-operated and inertia-driven semi-autos, platforms that can be more finicky with buckshot loads than pump or break-action designs.

Auto-Ordnance has announced the Thompson TM1CP, a lightweight take on the iconic M1 Thompson chambered in .45 ACP. Dubbed the Lightweight M1 Thompson, the new model carries the same recognizable silhouette that made the original "Tommy Gun" famous while shedding a significant amount of weight for the modern shooter.

My Garmin Xero C1 chronograph has become one of my must-have items when I am at the range. These little chronographs are incredibly convenient and help me gather the data I need to provide quality reviews. About the only downside (other than price) is that the unit does not include much in the way of protection, nor does it come with a case. Annex Defense has some accessories that help keep your Garmin from being destroyed by the other things in your range bag.

MDT Sporting Goods launched a very limited number of ACC Elite Anniversary Edition chassis. As they all sold out very quickly, all that we’re left with are these gorgeous images for our Photo Of The Day.  TFB previously reviewed the MDT ACC Elite chassis ( here) and found it to be a competition-focused evolution of MDT’s original ACC design, emphasizing balance, rigidity, and adjustability. Installed on my Bergara B14-R rimfire action, the chassis showed excellent fit and machining quality, with a solid bedding interface and no play once torqued down. It’s a great setup that I use for beginners to introduce them to PRS-22,  as well as my own training and competitions.

As we’ve covered in previous articles in this series, Remington has been steadily refining its rimfire lineup, focusing on better performance at lower prices. The city of Denver, Colorado, was one of the first states to enact a so-called “assault weapons ban.” And now the federal Department of Justice is fighting back, suing the city over what the DOJ says is a violation of citizens’ constitutional rights.

The RPL-20 follows typical Kalashnikov design trends but features a unique bottom-feed tray cover arrangement rather than a conventional top-feed tray cover. The weapon is chambered in 5.45x39, a cartridge well known for its relatively mild recoil impulse and soft shooting. When paired with the RPL-20’s overall weight and operating system, the result is a firing impulse that appears unusually smooth. In the video, the recoil impulse appears consistent with a rearward push, similar to a constant-recoil system. However, it is unlikely that the RPL-20 employs a true constant recoil in the technical sense for such a short receiver.

Some rifles are built around suppression as an afterthought. This one clearly is not.
