Perhaps 2016 is going to be the year of the “fifty” caliber toys and mods. Anything, really, to distract us from new colors… 🙂 Beck Sports LLC (out of Fort Worth) is playing around with a “new” round they are calling the “.510 Beck”. They currently have a trademark live on it (pending registration): https://inventively.com/search/trademarks/86587155
The projectile itself is weighing in at 690 grains, and appears to be manufactured by Lehigh Defense and the entire round is supposed to fit in the length of a .308 magazine. Which means you will be able to use it with a AR-10/.308 lower. Lancer is efforting out the 10 round magazines (which you can see in the featured image on this post). So basically, with the swap of an upper and your magazine, you can be chucking .50 caliber projectiles down range.
It also sounds like the plan for this is to be generally available as subsonic, though I am assuming there will be “faster” options available. I can’t imagine what that will feel like through that platform though (the non-subsonic that is).
A couple of places have had the fortune to see these out in the wild, and expect some more detailed coverage when we hit SHOT this year.
So, readers, what are your thoughts? interesting? Pointless? Cool, but I’d never buy it?
