Welcome everyone to the 233rd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the bolt action non-threaded 300 Blackout was fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up with the legacy 300 Whisper pistol still up for grabs. We can only hope that this non-threaded gat will find its way to a new home shortly.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Mitchel Arms P08 luger chamber in 9mm. As is tradition, this gold and silver engraved gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $4,500 Buy It Now.

The 9mm Luger is a WWII classic. While it might not live on as fondly as the M1911, it certainly became a classic for both collectors and historians alike.  This toggle-locked recoil-operated pistol was produced and served for serval nations from 1989 to 1949 before it was officially retired.  Due to potentially questionable origin, Luger enthusiasts are usually an exceptionally rare breed among collectors.

I guess that’s what makes this pistol that little bit even more interesting. Not only is it not an original (technically), but it’s gone in the totally opposite direction in terms of theme and origin. Granted there are not too many manufacturers of these pistols out there nowadays, so if you wanted something “new” this would be as close as you’d come.  I think I’d be okay without the gold plating and engraving.

What do you think? Is this Mitchel Arms P08 luger worth it for just under $5k or are you better off saving your money for a rainy day? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
