HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Pistol Bolt Action 300 Whisper or Please God No More?
Welcome everyone to the 232nd edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the blue and pink 1911 Platipus was fudd crap.
At this time the original auction is still up while this (allegedly*) unicorn-themed gat awaits a new home. We can only hope that it’ll find its way to that new, and responsible, home in the not-so-distant future.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom bolt action pistol chambered in 300 Whisper. As is tradition, this legacy chambered gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $900 Starting Bid with No Reserve.

Pistol Bolt Action 300 Whisper or Please God No More?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
“Who will hate you more? Your left-handed friend or the guys in the lanes around you?” -Giorgio O.
Selling this identity confused gat is GunBroker seller ProGun23, located in Marion IL. Let’s see what they had to say about this once semi-wildcat chambered gat.

For those not familiar with 300 Whisper, it’s sorta like .223 Remington compared to 5.56×45 NATO. Devoloped in the 1990’s by J.D. Jones of SSK Industries, the idea was to be able to use both lightweight and heavyweight (subsonic) bullets. SSK registered the wordmark “whisper” leading to the development of a slew of other cartridges like the 300 Warrior Carbine and 300 Fireball. Today the variant most everyone in the firearms world knows is 300 Blackout.
I wish I could make sense of this pistol, but this all seems lost on me. It’s a lot of effort put into a caliber that was designed to be versatile, work in AR pattern rifles, and be suppressor-compatible. I guess you could say this is versatile? But it’s certainly not suppressor-ready. It seems like one of those guns built around a new cool caliber at the time, and then was placed in a safe and forgotten. Maybe with some threading, this could be fun, but currently, I’m failing to see the point of why this exists.
What do you think? Is this custom 300 Whisper worth it for just a shade under $1k or are you better served saving that money for a rainy day? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
What do you think? Is this custom 300 Whisper pistol a Hot Gat or unbelievable Fudd Crap? Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Baldwin Gun Works Custom Savage Striker 300 Whisper pistol is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:

Left handed, bolt action pistol, in a odd caliber? Screams no sale.... market of nobody.
Glad to see that most of the commenters are smarter than the TFB guys. It's unforgivable how little they know about stuff that's either more than 20yrs old, or outside their narrow tactical/self defense wheelhouse. I would wager that back in the day, before all the TFB guys were born, 90% of .300 Whisper chambered guns were 10" Contenders and not used with a suppressor.
