The ongoing updating of classic cowboy designs continues with the new Uberti Hunter revolver lineup. If you’ve been feeling the only thing stopping you from downing a wild hog with a classic 1873-style revolver was the stock sights, then worry no more—thanks to Uberti, you can now slap a red dot on your old-school shootin’ iron.

As the name implies, the new Uberti 1873 Hunter Revolver is patterned off the legendary Colt Peacemaker design. You should know what to expect here; a single-action revolver with an ejector under the barrel, and a loading gate at the back of the cylinder. This time around, Uberti has added an optic rail and a set of 1860-pattern walnut grips (which are supposed to fit gloved hands better).

Chambered in .45 LC and .44 Magnum, the 1873 Hunter models are based on Uberti’s popular 1873 Cattleman single-action revolver series. The difference is that the 1873 Hunter Revolvers come with a frame-mounted Picatinny rail. This is ideal for SSA enthusiasts who wish to hunt medium- and large-size game with the proven .45 LC or .44 Magnum cartridges but are not comfortable doing so with the traditional iron sight configuration.

With the inclusion of the Picatinny rail, shooters can now add modern optics to this American heritage revolver and enjoy point-of-aim, point-of-impact performance at typical hunting distances. The rail is suitable for mounting either a long eye relief low-power handgun scope or a compact red dot optic. The red dot option is also the perfect choice for recreational shooters whose eyes struggle with open sights, making the 1873 Hunter Revolvers as suitable for a day at the range as a day in the hunting fields.

As you can see, there’s still a blade sight at the end of the 7.5-inch barrel, but that’s mainly for looks.

The Uberti Hunter Revolver joins a series of updated 1873 Hunter lever-action rifles also launched this season. Like the revolvers, the rifles are chambered in .45 LC or .44 Magnum, so you can have your rifle and handgun in the same caliber, just like an old-time cowpoke.
