Mini-Magnum: New Bond Arms Stinger Fireball Derringer

"Bang! Bang!" Rattle off two quick shots with this Bond Arms Stinger Fireball, and you'll see a muzzle flash that explains the name. [Bond Arms]

Bond Arms may specialize in concealed-carry pistols, but they’re not exactly a company that goes for subtlety. With big-bore pistols like their Cyclops derringer chambered in .45-70 Government.50 AE or .44 Magnum, you might be forgiven for thinking the company’s slogan was something about going for the gusto. But to prove they’re more than just a purveyor of undersized hand cannons, we also get the new Stinger Fireball derringer, which should be a lot more manageable – maybe even fun to shoot.

    Bond Arms @ TFB:

The Stinger Fireball is still chambered in magnum cartridges. However, Bond Arms spec’d the much more sensible .327 Federal Magnum and .22 Magnum. The former will still likely have a stiff snap in the 14.4-ounce pistol, and even the .22 Magnum will have a loud bark. But if you’re at the range, chances are you’ll be back for more blasting from the double-barrel pistol. That B6 grip certainly seems to make the derringer more stable while firing, as you can see in the video below.

The reason behind the pistol’s name is obvious, but in case you didn’t get it, Bond Arms spells it out for you:

Why did we nickname it “Fireball”?

Let’s just say that it lit up the range while we were test-firing it!

The idea for this new pistol design was to create a trimmed-down version of the Bond Arms derringer design, instead of just re-chambering their heavier pistols for lighter cartridges. Why carry around excess weight if you don’t need it? That means the frame (which is made of anodized 7075 aluminum) will only work with other Stinger-series barrels; no mixing and matching a .44 Magnum barrel on there!

We haven’t seen any mention of other calibers coming for the Stinger Fireball, but it would be unsurprising if that happened at some point. But Bond Arms has a lot going on these days – they’re still working on getting their mag-fed .223 lever-action to market – and if you’re hoping for a .22LR version of this pistol, or .32 ACP or something else, don’t expect it in the near future.

MSRP for the Stinger Fireball is $389. More info at BondArms.com.
