HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Ultimate SCR or Trying Too Hard?

Welcome everyone to the 227th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, due to some technical difficulties (I blame the Google overlords) we weren’t able to get the poll data. But there was plenty of debate in the comments section – most of you could just about see past the paint job.

However, at this time we know the original auction is still up with the custom AT308 up for grabs. We can only hope this classic British rifle will find its way to a new home in the not-so-distant future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Fightlite SCR chambered in .350 Legend. As is tradition, this straight wall chambered gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,000 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

    “Mid-life identity crisis.” – Will P.

“Looks like someone found it in a drainage ditch. Probably should have left it.” – James Reeves

    “It’s an SC-nahh for me” – Matt M.

“I like the SCR and (right) side chargers… that’s all I’ve got to say about that.” – Doug E.

For those not familiar, the FightLite SCR is an innovative design that allows for the use of AR-15 pattern magazines in a 50 state legal configuration.  Essentially it’s taking a gun that looks sorta like your dad’s hunting rifle and making it legal everywhere.  I like the idea, but like pretty much all the items on this series, the execution here is a little strange.  I understand that it’s a walnut stock, but I think we can all admit this is a little over the top.

Maybe after writing hundreds of editions to this series I’m just in agony looking at custom Cerekote jobs.  Certainly, the battle-worn, splatter, whatever you want to call it look is starting to feel a little played out.  I’m not sure why these guns keep popping up, but it feels like there’s a Cerakote shop somewhere that’s now in the market for a boat.  Overall this is an interesting gun that was modified to a level that’s now just distracting.  Time will tell if the .350 Legend is here to stay (I don’t live in a state that dictates straight wall cartridges for hunting), but I do know that there’s a limited market for buyers of rifles like these.

What do you think?  Is this custom SCR worth it for $2k or would you rather have a factory model for roughly $750 less?  That question along with the overall question I leave up to you, the readers, to decide.

What do you think?  Is this Custom FightLIte SCR a Hot Gat or an oddly chambered and painted Fudd Crap?  Be sure to let us know in the comments below, and cast your vote to let us know if this Custom FightLite SCR .350 Legend is a Hot Gat or Fudd Crap:
