[SHOT 2024] Quiet Carbon Cans from Carbon Research

Carbon Research brought their revolutionary carbon fiber high-end, lightweight suppressors to SHOT Show 2024’s Industry Range Day.

    CR22 Can

One of the standout models is the CR22 can. Carbon Research employed a Ruger 22LR Precision Rifle equipped with the CR22 can at the range to demonstrate its capabilities. The company records the report of this setup at the muzzle at a mere 102 decibels.

These suppressors show significant progress in the company’s innovative use of carbon fiber technology. After investing five years in research and development, Carbon Research now blends a carbon fiber tube with carbon fiber baffle systems in their suppressors, which greatly diminishes overall weight. This noticeable weight reduction enhances the weapon maneuverability and ease of usage in various setups.

The design features a metal end cap, which can be engraved, and the suppressor is full-auto rated for a 22. With a diameter of 1.1 inches and a length of 6.5 inches, it offers a significant sound reduction of up to 38 decibels. Moreover, it boasts a direct thread 1/2″x28 attachment and is rated for 22 Short, 22 Long, 22 Mag, and 17 HWR. The CR22 suppressor weighs in at only 2.3 ounces and has an MSRP of $699.

    CR9 Multi Can

The flagship suppressor of Carbon Research is the CR9 Multi Can. The company claims to have conducted a test with 10,000 rounds passing through one of their test CR9s with no observed deterioration. Carbon Research has addressed concerns related to potential delamination due to excessive heat in carbon fiber suppressors. During rapid-fire tests with a Ruger 10-22, little discernable heating of the can was observed.

According to the company, the low thermal conductivity of carbon fiber teamed with the lightness of their suppressors means they do not get hot quickly. Even when multiple magazines are run on full auto, they dissipate heat quickly.

The CR9 model is full-auto rated for 9x19mm. It has a 1.3 inch diameter and a length of 8 inches. It’s also rated for .300 BLK sub and supersonic, 9mm sub and supersonic, .22 Short, .22 Long, .22 Magnum, and .17 HMR, and weighs only 6.5 oz. It retails at an MSRP of $1,299.00.

CR9 Multi CanFor those in the hunt for something designed for .300BLK, Carbon Research is currently developing the CR30 can, coming in at a protracted 9.8 ounces. The company aims to have this new suppressor on the market within the year.

CR9 Multi CanThe lightweight and efficient suppressors offered by Carbon Research prove the company’s boast to be pioneering the future of the suppressor industry.
