The NEW SIG-Sauer Romeo X Series Red Dot

Hop
by Hop

In this episode of TFBTV, Hop visited the SIG optics factory to watch the Romeo X red dot being assembled by a dystopian machine that hopefully won’t turn on us someday (but it probably will). These optics are the successor to the Romeo Elite and Elite Zero, which had polymer bodies and really annoying buttons. The Romeo X is a step in the right direction, but is it too late to catch up with Holosun?

    >2 models
    >both feature an open emitter throwing a red 2 MOA dot and 32 MOA circle. the circle can be turned off
    >both have 3 night vision settings.
    >both use CR1632 batteries.
    >one model has a R1P/R2/deltapoint footprint
    >the other fills P365 and Shield RMSc footprint.
    >both are now available at your local digital retailer
    >black only BTW

I’m happy they made these. If I get one I’ll remove the rear sight from P365 slide it goes on. It’s an easy fix to avoid having double rear sights that are invariably out of alignment. But first I have to convince myself to buy one - the CR1632 gives me pause - I’d have been more excited if they used CR2032 batteries.

@Vynz CR1632 aren't quite as common as CR2032, but I can still get them in-store at my local Walmart. It's also what Holosun is using in the 407/507C/K/508Y/509T. OTOH, it's a different battery from what my rifle red dots mostly use.

Biggest downside I see is that these emitters don't seem to be as power efficient as Huanic/Holosun's, if we're going by the battery life. Since SIG isn't saying, I'm going to assume that the 20k hour battery life is dot-only. If the battery life reduction is like Holosun's when you use the circle dot reticles (60% reduction) and you live somewhere that's really bright and sunny year round, the circle dot may not make it through a year without a battery change.
