The MP5-SD is one of the best suppressed 9mm PCC ever made. However, the problem it has is due to the cage that shrouds the suppressor. Well, Dakota Tactical has come out with the TheOne SD Cage. It is used in their MP5-SD builds and opens up more modularity for the gun.

The MP5-SD has a narrow cage that is just wide enough to tuck the SD suppressor inside. See the factory cage in the photo above. It has slots machined into it for weight reduction and possible cooling. It uses a brass heatshielded rubber handguard that slides over this cage. This limits your ability to mount any accessories. MP5-SD users end up using zip-ties to mount Picatinny rails to the handguard or they use the two-piece tri-rail from B&T.

Well, with their new TheOne SD Cage collaboration between Dakota Tactical and Gigliotti Rifle Works, you have more options for modularity. You can see the Gigliotti Rifle Works TheOne SD Cage has larger slots machined into it so it can line up with the MLOK slots of the Dakota Tactical’s new MHS-SD (Modular Handguard System).

The Dakota MHS-SD is a two-piece modular handguard system that bolts into the TheOne SD Cage. It offers you 7 rows of MLOK Slots.

TheOne SD Cage is listed on Dakota Tactical’s website for $134. And their MHS-SD handguard is an additional $272. TheOne cage will be an optional upgrade for future Dakota Tactical builds as well as an upgrade for existing MP5-SD builds. Joe of Dakota Tactical needs to figure out the labor costs of cutting your existing cage which is easier said than done. He estimates it will be under $1000 to upgrade your SD with TheOne cage. For a conversion of an existing MP5 platform, you are looking at around $2,300. That is the cost of the parts, barrel, locking piece, TheOne SD Cage and labor.  I had planned to send them my SP5-L a while ago to get it converted into an SP5-SD but I was told to wait for TheOne cage to be released before doing it. Now there is no reason to wait anymore.
