HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Total Precision or Tragic Rendition?

Welcome everyone to the 204th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – Is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the suppressed M76 was a very hot gat.

HGFC – M76 NATO or Yugo No? — Poll Results

At this time the original auction remains up with the very hot M76 still up for grabs. We can only hope this very hot gat can find its way to a new home in the very near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Aero Precision SOLUS chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. As is tradition, this custom bolt gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,800 Starting Bid with No Reserve.

Like all custom rifles, we’ll never really know how good this one is until someone purchases it. Sadly I hate to point out that this group leans more towards being ~.750 MOA and not .581 MOA. Measuring from the center of each impact isn’t as much fun, but that’s the correct way to measure MOA. Still having just reviewed one of these rifles I can attest to how well the Remington 700 pattern action works with the Savage pattern prefit barrels. I honestly hope that this design is here to stay and becomes the standard pattern moving forward.

Like AR pattern designs, once a design like this becomes standard, it’s a certainty that you’ll see over-the-top custom jobs sooner rather than later. This subjectively is neither bad nor good, but rather just is a byproduct. It does present an interesting opportunity to see how these items are priced after they’re built though. I mean, is this really worth $2,800 or do I smell toast? Because these photos say 2023 but I feel like I’m in the 90s looking at them.

What do you think? Is this rifle worth it for $2,800 or would you rather build or buy something more your own? As always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
