Imperial Arms Co. Buffered Bolt Carrier For SCAR 17/20

Imperial Arms Co. has been making some great products for the SCAR platform. Specifically, their Cypher X, to build your own pistol version of a SCAR. Or their MTM which allows you to use LR/SR .308 mags and more importantly AR triggers. Well, now they are coming out with the Buffered Bolt Carrier to help mitigate recoil.

More Imperial Arms Co. @ TFB:

Imperial Arms Co. sent their Buffered Bolt Carrier to me and I will be reviewing it later. For now, here are some photos of the BBC.

    Buffered bolt carrier

Imperial Arms Co. added an NRCH (non-reciprocating charging handle sled) to their buffered bolt carrier so you can upgrade older SCAR 17s if you want to. It requires an extra part which I will explain further down. You can see the buffer stick out the back of the buffered bolt carrier in the photo below.

Here is a photo with my factory FN SCAR17S bolt carrier next to the Imperial Arms Co. buffered bolt carrier.

*Drops in to Cypher X, NRCH Scar(tm) 17 and 20 firearms (does not include front NRCH sling plate or handle)

*Hyraudlicly buffered configuration greatly reduces wear on the receiver and mititgates backplate screw canting, even under the harshest, overgassed and suppressed conditions.  Allows the use of high backpressure suppresors typically forbidden on the Scar(tm) platform.

*Hyper tough, S7 tool Steel, skelotonized construction

    *Carrier weight is 16.5oz

*Super slick DLC Coated (please note that there will be some purley cosmetic discoloration located in the bolt and recoil cavites specific to the aspect-ratio limitation phenominom of the DLC process)

*Semi And Full-Auto capable.  Full auto trip pins are available in our store HERE.

*Greatly reduces recoil, improves follow up shots, and makes full auto/forced reset fire softer and more controllable.

    *Mitigates Bolt Bounce

The buffered bolt carrier has a lot of cuts in the carrier to reduce the weight of the buffer. The BBC weighs 16.5 oz, similar to the factory bolt carrier weight.

The Imperial Arms Co. buffered bolt carrier has the hole for the sear trip if you have a post sample SCAR or if you want to run a forced reset trigger.

Close-up of the NRCH sled. That hook grabs onto a special end plate.

For those of you, like me, who do not have a NRCH SCAR you need something like this Ferni Lab SUP (SCAR Unobtrusive Plate) and get one for the NRCH. See the silver-colored pin? That is what the NRCH hook on the buffered bolt carrier sled grabs onto.

When I reviewed the InfiRay RH25, I used the CypherX SCAR17 to test the recoil-reducing mount. I filmed it in slow motion with my high-speed Chronos 1.4 camera and was shocked at how much the Elcan Spectre moved under recoil. Here is the video I recorded for that review.

The recoil is even worse with a forced reset trigger or on full auto. But with the Imperial Arms Co. buffered bolt carrier, it is tamed.

Here is the BBC mag dumping a drum.

I am excited to see how much the BBC reduces recoil. Nate at Imperial Arms said you can run the SCAR overgassed and the BBC will take it. Stay tuned for the review of the buffered bolt carrier after I take it to the range and run some rounds through it. Right now the buffered bolt carrier is scheduled for a Fall 2023 release and will be $799.99. Check out their website for more information.
