Welcome everyone to the 194th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Chinese SKS was fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up with this Cold War relic still up for grabs for $599.  We can only hope this Chinese variant of a Soviet-era classic will find its way to a new home in the very near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom Uberti Schofield chambers in 45 Long Colt. As is tradition, this railed-out revolver is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,499.99 Starting Bid with No Reserve.

It seems that the newest “fashion” trend in the firearms community is to take something classic and put a bunch of modern upgrades on it.  Who knows where this all started.  Personally, I like to blame the lever action crowd.  Have I shot a modern suppressed lever action with a paracord-wrapped lever?  Yes.  Was it really fun and I felt sorta confused after shooting it.  Also yes.  At a certain point, the interesting factor wears off and you’re forced to think, “Do I really need an M-LOK rail on everything?”.  The correct answer is no.

I understand the advantages that modern features like red dots bring to the pistol market, but also I’m a firm believer in letting history be history.  And sure, we live in a very free world where things like this can exist “just for fun” or “just for the memes”, but at a certain point I think we can all admit it’s just obnoxious.  I enjoy sci-fi movies just as much as the next guy, but that doesn’t mean your gun collection needs to look like the ISS prop house.  But I digress.  I guess all is well that ends well, and I can only hope that what’s done can be undone to this classic.  Or if your goal in life is to give the local classic gun collector a stroke, this might very well be the gun for you.  Who knows.

What do you think?  Do all these modern enhancements make this custom Uberti Schofield worth it for just under $2,500?  Or would you rather buy something that didn’t look like a sci-fi movie prop?  As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
