HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Is this 1908 Polished or Polarizing?

Welcome everyone to the 186th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the .22LR chambered ARX was a hot gat.

HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Is this 1908 Polished or Polarizing?

Designed by John Browning, the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket was in production from 1908 to 1948.  These small striker-fired pistols were marketed for concealed carry and featured a 6-round detachable magazine.  By modern standards, the .25 ACP doesn’t pack much of a punch.  In this era, there weren’t many semi-automatic firearms with this capacity, all while being this small.  In the years they were built, over 400,000 of these little pistols were made.

Production was halted to accommodate WWII efforts, and when production resumed, these pistols became the Baby Browning, a gun that is still in production to this day.  The gun itself is very cool, but I really wish I could see it before all the gold plating and engraving happened.  I mean of all the guns to gold plate and engrave, why this one?  There are just so many other new guns, why are we messing with history?  Who knows, maybe that is just what some collectors are into nowadays.

So what’s a highly customized pocket pistol like this worth these days?  Is historical enough or flashy enough to warrant a price tag near $2k?  I leave all that and the most important question up to you, the readers, to decide.
