NEW Primary Arms SLx and GLx Binoculars – Glass 10x Full

Do you know any birders? Or maybe you are a birder? Either way, if you make the mistake of referring to an avid birder as a “birdwatcher” you are definitely going to hear about it – probably in the form of high-pitch whistles or chirps. Speaking of watching things, Primary Arms has just released two new 10x binoculars. The Primary Arms SLx and GLx binoculars are $129 and $259 respectively and represent a solid value in the midrange optics world. The GLx binoculars include premium materials in exchange for a bit more weight.

And if you are a birder or an aspiring birder, the movie The Big Year with Steve Martin and Jack Black is a decent film that will make you want to buy a new set of binos.

  • I really wish the press release would actually tell you what the differences are between the two. Just saying that one of them has "premium technology and materials" doesn't actually SAY anything.

Does it have a metal body vs polymer? Does it have different glass coatings and what are they? Is one using ED glass while the other doesn't? These are really quick and easy specs to list out that actually SAY what the difference is. But we don't know because all they'll say is one is "premium".

@BattleshipGrey Ah, so it's not following their traditional scope naming scheme, but more like the PA prism scopes where they're all made in China.

Personality, I like to buy from friendlier countries when there's also some sort of added value. Like my first pistol red dot was/is an RMR Type 2, which is just as durable as when it came out a decade ago, but is otherwise mostly inferior to Holosun dots. So subsequent pistol dots have been Holosun, and I'd buy an ACRO C/P-2 before I bought another RMR (if they were widely available anyway). Both Holosun and Aimpoint's newer dots look better with my astigmatism than Trijicon's red dots.

However, when it comes to rifle scopes, the Philippines manufactured lines seem to be a good blend of quality and value for me. That's the position that Taiwanese made tools are in for me. I like to buy German or Japanese... when I find deals. I'm not a professional user, so it's hard to justify top of the line USA/German/Japanese tools even if they might be better.

@BattleshipGrey Very cool, look forward to your report.

I've heard good things about PA's GLX offerings; their 2x prism scope was highly regarded for its optical quality. Hope these prove to be comparably nice, if so I'll snag a pair.
