The Student Air Rifle (SAR) Program is a youth-focused shooting program aimed at helping school-aged kids in grades 4 through 12 get a basic grasp of basic air riflery keeping students on target at the range, and also in school. Today the Student Air Rifle Program announced its first step into the state of Kentucky, with 17 new certified SAR instructors being added to the BARI (SAR Basic Air Riflery Insctutors) list during the June 30th BARI training workshop in Nicholasville, KY.

The Student Air Rifle program currently operates in five (now six) different states including Missouri where they are headquartered, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Texas. SAR uses a very structured and standardized method of training that coincides and aims to never interfere with students’ studies.

Teachers start by exploring their gym or outdoor range area with a lesson on “Target Shooting Safety & Range Set-up”. They then engage with the equipment, spend time understanding the “11 Steps to Air Riflery Success”, and end with a lesson on “Air Riflery & Beyond”. All nine lessons in the SAR curriculum are designed to be taught to students in grades 4 – 12 and provide a solid introduction to target shooting in a safe and fun way. We are thrilled to bring SAR to Kentucky and provide an additional shooting sport for KY schools to participate in,” mentioned Jake Hindman, President and CEO of SAR.

Like many other student shooting programs, the SAR program is always accepting applications for new locations and schools where students can come to learn basic air riflery and then put those skills to use during official SAR tournaments. If you’re interested in becoming a BARI-certified instructor or possibly hosting SAR at your student’s local school, more information can be found at www.studentairrifleprogram.org.
