If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, found the skull-covered AR-15 to be a massive pile of fudd crap.

HK P7s will always and forever be cool firearms.  Prompted by the 1972 Munich Olympics Massacre, German police decided to replace the .32 ACP Walter PP with the similarly sized 9mm pistol.  HK stepped up to the plate with the squeeze cocking HK P7, and it was purchased alongside the SIG P225 and Walther P5.  Like all German firearms, the P7 operates using a combination of conventional engineering and German space magic.  Once you grasp how intricate a squeeze cocker is, you’re then forced to confront the fact that the P7 uses a gas-delayed blowback system as well.

Somehow (I’m telling you it’s German space magic) the P7 works, and a works incredibly well.  But like all major handguns that lived through the ’90s, the P7 M10 variant in .40 Smith & Wesson was inevitable.  After the 1986 FBI Miami shootout, .40 Smith & Wesson would take over a large market share in the years to come.  All these years later, .40 S&W is far from relevant while ammo is still plentiful making this HK P7 M10 a strangely interesting talking point.

On the low end, these guns typically sell for roughly $3k nowadays.  When you factor in a rare finish, limited chambering, and low serial number, these guns go for even more.  So is this gun worth it for almost five figures?  Well, as always, I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
