Welcome everyone to the 97th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the Chinese SKS was cursed fudd crap.
At this time the original auction has ended after a 21 bid bidding war, and a final sale price of $517. Congratulations to buyer Baron0331 on what you’ve deemed a hot gat.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Brazilian bolt action pistol chambered in 28 gauge. As is tradition, this strange-looking shotgun pistol is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $167.77 Current Bid and No Reserve.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP?
Ultimate Pistol Shotty or Brazilian Joker?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
“Someone please call Captain Nascimento…” – Giorgio O.
“for the Pirate poor” – Mike R.
“It’s a trap. At first glance “ooh a bolt action pistol?” But upon closer inspection it is 28ga.” – Nick C.
“Why do people legitimately put effort into being stupid?” – Will P.
“Last used in a favela shootout, electrical tape for the grip not included. Someone actually put the effort into importing this?” – Rusty S.
Selling this bolt action shotgun cartridge chambered gat is GunBroker seller allstarmt, located in Butte MT. Let’s see what they had to say about this bolt action 28 gauge pistol.

I can’t understand why someone decided to convert this Fabrica De Itajuba to a pistol, and lets just say those finger grooves on the grip don’t exactly scream quality. But I guess if you can dream up something dumb enough, there’s someone crazy to do it.
Based on the information I found, this pistol used to look something like this, and was a rocket line launching gun. So this would have been used with specific ammo (I’m sure is impossible to import) to cast lines over long distances for various purposes.
Given the already obscure and scarce nature of 28Ga ammunition, it would appear this pistol was threaded for chokes for sporting purposes perhaps? It’s really anyone’s guess on this one, but I’m certainly sure that there’s an interesting history behind this. Well, at least before it was converted to a pistol.
Is this even remotely interesting to the die hard collector or shotgun enthusiast? Given the current low price, I think not, but with no reserve the gun will certainly sell. Is this gun a hot gat though? As always I leave it up to you, the reader, to decide.
