Welcome everyone to the 91st edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the HK94 was a very hot gat.
At this time the original auction is still going, with the price now up to $9,502! We’re not sure how high the price will go, but clearly this HK94 is highly desirable.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom green SCAR17. As is tradition, this unique SCAR is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,525 (current bid) with No Reserve.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP?
Mean Green or Childish Dream SCAR17?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
“How to turn a decently cool gun into utter trash. Give it to someone “creative”” – Matt E.
“It looks like hot, melted Crayon from a child’s junk drawer.” – Adam S.
“The Hulk on pain pills.” – Pete
“What’s worse than 50 shades of FDE? You’re looking at it.” – Eric B.
“Fifty shades of baby sh*t.” – Will P.
“Backyard Camo Level 10” – Giorgio O.
“It’s a scary scarred SCAR” – Doug E.
Selling this green gat is GunBroker seller sarah15, located in Frederic WI. Let’s see what they had to say about this custom SCAR17.
SARAH15 GUNS is thrilled to offer up a chance at this AMAZING AND SCARCE BELGIUM MADE FN SCAR 17S CHAMBERED IN 7.62X51 NATO (.308 WINCHESTER)… $600 CUSTOM GREEN CERAKOTE FINISH WITH 3 CUSTOM MAGAZINES…RARE INFORCE LIGHT ON THE SIDE…HAVE A CHANCE AT THE PERFECT, CUSTOM AND RARE FN HERSTAL SCAR READY FOR YOUR HIGH-END COLLECTION TODAY!..
Using an Inforce WML light was an interesting choice on this setup. I’m not the foremost expert on Inforce lights, but it would appear this model is still in production. It’s certainly far from “rare”.
Rather than going the traditional fifty shades of FDE, the creator decided to go with fifty shades of OD green on this setup. Well, minus the grip and safety for whatever reason.
At the end of the day, it is just a Cerakote job. While I’m not particularly fond of it, at least the rest of the gun appears to be relatively untouched. The barrel hasn’t been chopped down, and it’s a gun that could be returned to an almost original configuration.
The biggest question is what will this gun sell for in this current market. The SCAR 17 series rifles are certainly far from cheap, but I would think this Cerakote job would discount the price a little. However, I could be wrong. So as always, I leave it up to you, the reader, to decide.
