Cabot Guns has announced the reintroduction of the National Standard pistol. Made with a combination of precision machining and hand fitting, this pistol is advertised to be “a benchmark that sets the modern standard for an American classic“. Let’s see what features this 1911 packs.
Cabot Guns National Standard pistols are available chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm Luger, both in Government (5″ barrel) and Commander (4.25” barrel) sizes. The company calls their Commander-size pistol Full Cycle Commander which means that decreasing the length of the pistol is not done at the cost of shortening the slide stroke distance.
The National Standard pistols feature match-grade flush fit barrels with deep muzzle crowns and polished feed ramps. The frames and slides are machined out of billet 416 stainless steel and go through a proprietary hardening process. The flat side surfaces of the slides and frames are satin polished. The slides have anti-glare serrations along the top flat and the ejection ports are lowered and flared. The raised surfaces of cocking serrations have additional fine arc-shaped cuts.
Cabot Guns National Standard pistols come with the company’s signature Tristar triggers that have serrated pads. These pistols are equipped with serrated U-notch rear sights and white dot front sights mounted in a reverse dovetail (machined parallel to the bore). The smooth, figured walnut grips feature inlaid Cabot logo medallions. The mainspring housings and front straps of the grips are checkered with the Rhombus pattern. Cabot guarantees that these pistols will print 1.5″ groups at 25 yards. The National Standard pistols are shipped with two magazines (8-round mags for the .45ACP and 9-round ones for the 9mm).
The base version of the Cabot Guns National Standard pistol that has all the above-described features and options is priced at $3,995. The company also offers a wide variety of upgrading/personalizing options for an additional cost. You can opt for a DLC slide and frame finish, adjustable and tritium rear sights along with tritium, gold bead or fiber optic front sights, add an accessory rail, threaded barrel, extended magwell, ambi safety, and choose from different trigger designs and a variety of grip options.
