Cabot Guns has announced the reintroduction of the National Standard pistol. Made with a combination of precision machining and hand fitting, this pistol is advertised to be “a benchmark that sets the modern standard for an American classic“. Let’s see what features this 1911 packs.

Cabot Guns National Standard pistols are available chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm Luger, both in Government (5″ barrel) and Commander (4.25” barrel) sizes. The company calls their Commander-size pistol Full Cycle Commander which means that decreasing the length of the pistol is not done at the cost of shortening the slide stroke distance.

The National Standard pistols feature match-grade flush fit barrels with deep muzzle crowns and polished feed ramps. The frames and slides are machined out of billet 416 stainless steel and go through a proprietary hardening process. The flat side surfaces of the slides and frames are satin polished. The slides have anti-glare serrations along the top flat and the ejection ports are lowered and flared. The raised surfaces of cocking serrations have additional fine arc-shaped cuts.

One thing I have never understood. Why put an extended safety lever, when it only gets in the way of a stock slide release lever? I prefer a stock safety lever and an extended slide release. It is a lot easier to do do rapid mag exchanges.
