KE Arms has been going at it hard with improvements and modifications to their polymer KP-15 lower receivers. They’ve recently identified a gunsmith who they’ve certified to shorten the overall length of pull on the KP-15 and now they have introduced a KP-15 Trap Door Buttplate for the stock lowers.
KE Arms Introduces KP-15 Trap Door Buttplate for Polymer Lowers
The KP-15 lower is designed to be an ultra-lightweight lower as part of the What Would Stoner Do (WWSD) rifle. The design focuses on making logical improvements to the AR-15 platform while maintaining the spirit of the rifle that Eugene Stoner placed into it with the initial design.
The KP-15 Trap Door Buttplate is what I believe to be a great addition to the build which brings the KP-15 lower and by extension the WWSD rifle a bit closer to the initial designs we saw with M-16 rifles that featured A2 stocks with trap door buttplates.
In this case, the KP-15 Trap Door Buttplate is made from injection-molded plastic and entirely replaces the existing buttplate on the KP-15 lower. The KE Arms website makes specific mention of having to remove the plastic flash (plastic that seeps out of the mold during the injection process) from behind the stock buttplate before the KP-15 Trap Door Buttplate can be fit in. The existing screws that held the old buttplate in can be used to install the new one.
It seems like you’ll have roughly the same amount of storage space as inside of genuine A2-style stock. This means you could put things like gun oil, cleaning rods, bore snakes, candy bars, skittles, or whatever else you think you’ll need while out at the range. Current shipping times are at about 4 weeks right now but some recent parts I’ve ordered from KE Arms have shipped faster than this.
