HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Tactical Advantage or Jam Avalanche?

Welcome everyone to the 66th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the S&W 460 XVR was a hot gat.

At this time the original auction has ended, and sadly the S&W did not sell.  Not to worry though as this wheelgun has already been relisted and is still up for grabs.  We hope it finds its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom AR-15 chambered in 7.62×39. As is tradition, this soviet chambered hybrid is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $1,524.99 with No Reserve.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Includes 40 rounds of ammo. Because that’s the total number of times you’ll pull the trigger on this gun.” – Pete

“Unusual chambering aside: everything forward of the receivers just screams ‘amateur hour’, and proudly.” – Will P.

“Nyet, that vertical forgrip is not fine.” – Matt M.

I never knew the US marked its trash as government property” – James Reeves

Selling this custom gat is GunBroker seller CTMFirearms, located in Bossier City LA.  Let’s see what they had to say about this x39 chambered custom AR.

This custom AR is a strange mix of parts that look very end user-specific.  The custom-cut pelican storm case was a nice start, and even the VLTOR stock I thought was a nice addition.  From there, things started to get a little strange.

In the late 2000’s vertical grip light combinations were all the rage.  In a matter of years, they subsequently faded away.  Since then, it’s always been interesting when you find someone who hasn’t given up on the idea. However, what you use to clear your basement is none of my business.

I’d also be remiss if I didn’t point out of the strange irony of cutting out spots for Federal 7.62×39 ammo, while not including the ammo in the sale.  I guess this 2020 ammo shortage really hitting everyone hard.  Whether or not this gun will reliably cycle this, or other types of ammo is open to vast speculation.  So is this custom PSA worth it for the price?  As always, I’ll let you decide.
