Today’s Photo of the Day takes us to US Marine Corps Camp Pendelton, with a series of photos taken during a standoff munitions disruption (SMUD) training exercise. Marines of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit tackled a number of munitions using M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper Systems.

In the first photograph above, Sgt. Michael Roberts, a reconnaissance assistant team leader with All-Domain Reconnaissance Detachment, 15th MEU, fires an M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System at an M67 fragmentation grenade. The aim of the SMUD training exercise was to enable Marines with Explosive Ordnance Disposal and ADR Det. to sustain the skills required to quickly and efficiently neutralise scattered ordnance from a safe distance.
