Evocatus Strategic is a relatively new company specialized in building AK pattern rifles. If you visit their website, you’ll see that they are focused on building rifles chambered in non-mainstream AK calibers such as the 6.5 Grendel and 9x39mm Their latest project is the GalilMoor – a Galil rifle chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.
After seeing the photos of GalilMoor on the Evocatus Strategic social media pages, I contacted the company hoping to get more information about the build and they kindly replied telling me all the details related to this project. Here is what they told me:
Its creation stems from our desire to take a proven battle rifle platform and improve its ballistic performance with a more modern cartridge. This was our objective when we first debuted our 6.5 Grendel AK (and our company) at Kalash Bash Texas one year ago. We have since shot our 6.5 Grendel AK out to 1,000 yards (24”, steel diamond), thus doubling the effective range of the original but with better external and terminal ballistics. We then put our sights on the Galil as a potential candidate for evolution.
The GalilMoor pictured is the prototype and still has plenty of testing to go through. Once we are confident and have broken in the barrel, we look to take it out and stretch its legs to see how far it’ll reach out.
This particular version has an 18” barrel with an 11 degree target crown and retains the classic Galil configuration. We are working on a second GalilMoor that will be a more modern take on the platform.
For now, we are still in testing, but once we confirm everything, we look to make this an available option to our customers. We aren’t mass producing anything and would instead prefer to make custom, bespoke firearms. I would rather build a gun to your desires with all of the preferred accessories custom fitted so that when you pull it from the Savior bag that it comes in, it is range ready. This ultimately saves the customer from having to buy a factory gun and then change all of the furniture out, or potentially pay a gunsmith to do more work, adding to the cost. Preliminary pricing for a similar GalilMoor as pictured would retail for $2,399.
Here is a video of the 1000-yard target engagement with a 6.5 Grendel AK mention in the above-quoted text.
What’s even more impressive than hitting a 1000-yard target with an AK, is doing it consistently. You may be able to get a hit at such distance even with a 7.62×39 AK, but good luck doing it consistently. I am pretty sure they’ll be able to achieve similar or better results with the GalilMoor. We’ll be following the development of GalilMoor and will make sure to report the news related to this project. Stay tuned!
